The joy of open plan offices. Watching a plague stalk through your coworkers while you ponder your inevitable fate.

Hopefully, this is the bulk of the project and the rest doesn’t compound the cost further.

So many people have grown up to be the villains of our stories.

The problem with most machine-based random number generators is that they’re not TRULY random, so if you need genuine randomness it is sometimes necessary to link your code to an external random process like a physical noise source or the current rate of US tariffs on a given country.

New plan. Eat off the vintage Fiesta Ware and hope for super-powers.

Im increasingly of the opinion that yaml is a curse.

Its all nice and elegant until you’re debugging a white space issue in a snippet a colleague angrily posted in teams chat on your phone in bed when you should be sleeping.

Just spent 5 minutes,

Left the office,
Walked 50 feet out the door,
Bent down and literally touched grass,
Counted to 100 while savoring the sun and chilly breeze on my skin
Walked back to my desk.

Feels like I just took something off of schedule 1

Always a great feeling when you stay late fighting a bug.

Eventually surrender and go home.

Only to fix it in 5 minutes once you’re no longer fighting with an exhausted brain.

Why is it so hard to realize you’ve hit negative returns on your productivity?

Spent some time playing with Claude code. I definitely wasted some money initially trying to be too ambitious with it. But as I learned its limits, i got into a really productive flow.

It’s impressive.

New Diet Motivation.

The baby macaw has decided pinching rolls of fat is “fun”.

In related news, he’s started to get good at saying “ouch”.

Started using Claude code last night. Generally, I’m quite pleased with the interface. But…

It’s pretty terrible at greenfield development and feels pricey. Will need to see how much it costs in practice after I finish this project.

The more of the zeitgeist consumed by someone with a similar name. The more I surround myself with other Dons to protect my personal brand.

Ducks and Beachcombers over incompetent rich narcissists.

This is how science works. Gradual understanding as the onion is peeled.

Does anyone know of a search engine that prioritizes slightly older content?

I’ve been trying to find articles at least 18 months old to minimize the AI slop and risk of poor information. Which doesn’t seem well supported in duck duck go.

The problem with Hanlon’s razor is that sometimes the right answer is AND.

Malicious intent AND Incompetence can coexist.

I just wish this wasn’t being demonstrated by example.

No it’s not. It still follows daylight savings nonsense.

Check out COT / Colombia Time for the truly superior option.

I was not a fan of Louis DeJoy, but, he did as good a job as could be expected.

Congress set up USPS to fail, and he did what he could to keep it solvent.

The big fear he would work to skew elections by impairing mail in ballots never happened.

He did his job competently and deserves thanks

As much as I hate to admit it. The sheer incompetence of the current dogeocracy is working to its long term benefit.

The smart employees being fired and unfired and generally jerked around are going to jump ship.

The Dead Sea effect will play out over the coming year or two, but it will happen.

Choose your leaders with wisdom and forethought.
To be led by a coward is to be controlled
by all that the coward fears.
To be led by a fool is to be led
by the opportunists who control the fool.
To be led by a thief is to offer up your most precious treasures to be stolen.
To be led by a liar is to ask to be told lies.
To be led by a tyrant is to sell yourself and those you love into slavery.

I think this is a fact most missed by outsiders to the MAGA movement. There is a joy there, ESP around “owning the libs”. We need that!

Remember the Pink Cat Hats? Dance, wear swag, be proud!

Do you remember that time Pence tried to see Hamilton and the cast called him out.

Or when McConnell was chased out of a resraurant and not allowed a peaceful meal.

Or when Cruz abandoned Texas during the deep freeze and we shamed him into going home.

That.

Do that.

Bought a pile of network equipment. Mostly on faith that what I want to accomplish is possible and that my current incompetence can be overcome.

Wish my family luck, their streaming may (likely will) be adversely impacted.

We really need an equivalent to the hammer and sickle for oligarchs.

Something that they might see with pride but the rest of us would see with derision.

Found out that TWENTY emails is considered a lot to politicians on an issue.

TWENTY.

As in, they call that getting slammed.

So next time you see a request to email your rep, or call, keep that in mind.

TWENTY is a lot.
