Our cities, our country, the shining culmination of centuries of imagination and labor, being destroyed by rich whiners and dumbasses.

NEW: Israel informed the UN it will permit only 300 aid trucks into Gaza daily, not the 600 mandated by the ceasefire it just signed.

“Many of us…”? It would be helpful to know from where this is coming. This is the first last-minute, half-assed element to the No Kings protests I’ve seen. The fact it is so out of character for the org makes many of us wonder if this is coming from the top or just an enthusiastic suggestion.

100%. The special George Washington “No Kings since 1776” shirt I ordered for the protest, in green, just arrived.

Tale as old as time. “Come on over we have the feature you want!”
“Do you have feature X?”
“We have a workaround users have come up with using their own separate server. Join the Discord!”

A benefit to asking me where the nurse flu vaccine exemption forms are is you no longer have to worry about me asking you your opinion on anything, ever.

May this get the love it deserves.

I worked at bars for a while and saw a lot of fights and a couple stabbings. The “Goodfellas”pistol beat down in the driveway is maybe the most realistic act of video on film.

Please remember that the disgust people have over Christopher Columbus is not based on some modern, 21st century “woke” ideology, but rather on contemporaneous accounts of atrocities that make many modern genocides appear quaint in comparison.

Below, are the accounts of Bartlomé de las Casas.
But too many of the slaves died in captivity. And so Columbus, desperate to pay back dividends to those who had in-vested, had to make good his promise to fill the ships with gold. In the province of Cicao on Haiti, where he and his men imagined huge gold fields to exist, they ordered all persons fourteen years or older to collect a certain quantity of gold every three months. When they brought it, they were given copper tokens to hang around their necks. Indians found without a copper token had their hands cut off and bled to death.
The Indians had been given an impossible task. The only gold around was bits of dust garnered from the streams. So they fled, were hunted down with dogs, and were killed. After each six or eight months' work in the mines, which was the time required of each crew to dig enough gold for melting, up to a third of the men died.
While the men were sent many miles away to the mines, the wives remained to work the soil, forced into the excruciating job of digging and making thousands of hills for cassava plants.
Thus husbands and wives were together only once every eight or ten months and when they met they were so exhausted and depressed on both sides... they ceased to pro-create. As for the newly born, they died early because their mothers, overworked and fam-ished, had no milk to nurse them, and for this reason, while I was in Cuba, 7000 children died in three months. Some mothers even drowned their babies from sheer desper-ation.... In this way, husbands died in the mines, wives died at work, and children died from lack of milk ... and in a short time this land which was so great, so powerful and fer-tile... was depopulated... My eyes have seen these acts so foreign to human nature, and now I tremble as I write....

It’s what’s happening in Section 206 that I’m curious about.

Last minute PSA for anyone traveling out of Denver International Airport this morning: 4AM security wait time is already 40 minutes.
TSA Clear is doing bang up business.
How many others here changed to early flights to try and get ahead of the East Coast storm?

“You’ve spent five minutes with the Vice President asking about a tape I don’t even know about. Why are you wasting the American people’s time on this question? Move on.”

“Okay. Moving on. Is it true you had sexual relations with a couch?”

Such an odd and precisely chosen turn of phrase, “our citizens all over the US.”
The phrase used 99.99% in that context is a version of “…proper security to the American people” or perhaps “American citizens” if he wanted to be cute about immigration.
But no. “Our citizens.”

The whole thing seems so frought and unappealing. It always was, of course, but on a human, not industrial scale.
Perhaps not needing the liquid courage to initiate contact in person is why liquor sales have plummeted among young people.

It made me realize having the majority of dating happen through apps means they already start out w/many of the disadvantages of ye olde tymes long distance relationships. Even w/o AI intermediaries the written self is different than the in person self.

“Rich went back and forth with ChatGPT until he felt they’d hit upon exactly the right message (“Hey Sarah, it was lovely to meet you”).”
If you need assistance to craft that reply you shouldn’t be dating you should be spending that time reading fiction and watching movies to absorb some humanity.

this is sociopathic behaviour and I think we need to treat it as such! just because something has become easy to do doesn't mean it has become less creepy, or more acceptable!
