40% of SNAP recipients are kids, 18% are elderly, 11% are disabled and of the rest, ~70% already have jobs. So unless your company’s hiring Junior Juice Box Interns, grandma and her walker, or knows how to fit more hours in a day, maybe cool it with the “just get a job” takes.

For every meal the food bank provides, the SNAP program provides 9.

Even if donations are rapidly scaled up, they won’t be able to meet the needs of 42 million Americans who are about to go hungry.

It’s not sustainable.

Not to mention things like having your hair and nails done, or wearing makeup, is often seen as MANDATORY to fit in among women, and that includes for many jobs. Yes, that includes teaching, daycare, and being a cashier. Without those appearance mods, people think women have "let themselves go."

It annoys me when people say “they’re on SNAP but their hair and nails are done and they’ve got tattoos”. It’s extremely normal to do your own hair and buy press on nails, and tattoos literally last forever. What do tattoos someone got 10 years ago have to do with them needing to eat now

If you find yourself judging people who use programs like SNAP, maybe stop. Signed a person who grew up on programs like this and wore designer clothing because my neighbour gave me her old work clothes and we just happened to be similar sizes.

It always amazes me how people create the fictions around poor people living above their means when we're all shopping at discount stores. Lots of those "designer bags" came right out of TJ Maxx or Marshalls or a thrift store. Dupe culture is right there to explain everything
