"A Case Definition of a New Disease: A Review of the US Working Definition (USG) and 2024 NASEM Definition for Long COVID"

I use two US #LongCovid case definitions as case studies for a broader discussion of SARS-CoV-2 sequelae

Costs of #LongCovid "are estimated at an average annual burden of $1 trillion globally"

Eva was hospitalized in early 2021 with Covid and discharged only over one year later, when she was reported to be conscious, but remained with severe pulmonary and neurological sequelae. She has died in November 2025 at home in Manaus surrounded by family and little son Ethan

Brazilian singer Eva Rodrigues Praia Walkey has passed away in her 40s after fighting #LongCovid for five years. She endured lengthy hospital stays, 400 days in a coma, a cesarean section the day she was first hospitalized with hypoxia, 2 cardiac arrests, and lost 20% of her lungs

It's an individual and gruelling sport so I an not surprised to see obvious impact. And sure, v few would speak about Covid

It's mostly what I say here but with more links. Bsky doesn't work very well for me

"Happy to get the win [over Spain's Munar],” tennis star Zverev said. “I’m not feeling my best, so, was lacking energy a little bit yesterday and overnight". He's said to be "coughing" and lack voice in post match interviews (Spain in the end won the Davis semifinals) (I have the full thread on X)

"I am ill but I will give everything"

Tennis star Alexander Zverev shared to be unwell and not fully fit after tighly beating Jaume Munar at the Davis Cup today. He's reported to have "a flu" and be "coughing" in the press.

Please remember that the UK had seen what happened in Wuhan (China) and Lombardy (Italy) when they had to decide in the end how to mitigate for Covid in 2020. And the evidence was that unmitigated SARS-CoV-2 spread was recipe for disaster

"A total of 634 fetal samples (538 from fetuses of women who were SARS-CoV-2 infected during pregnancy), from 32 tissue types, [were] collected and analyzed in [the] study. The study raises concerns over transmission of SARS-CoV-2 from the mother to the foetus in pregnancy

"Women of both groups [those who had Covid in pregnancy and the controls who didn't] opted for second-trimester pregnancy termination due to either elective abortion or fetal abnormalities."

Autopsies of 18 foetuses showed that "SARS-CoV-2 can be widely distributed in fetal organs through vertical transmission". In addition immune and DNA damage were found in the infected organs

Friend this morning ‘you want to go to the pub’. I don’t know what to say anymore, those around me ignore my situation entirely. Five years campaigning and still don’t have good vaccine access or any awareness of airborne risk, post infection risk. There is a failure to inform on risk.

Thanks very much much🙏 I have been sharing a lot on X about this. Tragic

I personally agree it's not enough including because the whole funding is spread in ten years. We are sick now and have been for years

I can't express myself on the other things you mentioned such as nasal sprays as I have seen conflicting opinions on that and I am not an expert on that specific topic, but thanks for writing about masking

Not a problem:)

Airborne pathogens such as SARS-CoV-2 can spread and linger in the air, a bit like cigarette smoke. High quality masks/respirators are key to preventing infection, especially in indoor spaces.

"€500m to tackle ‘huge burden’ of long Covid and similar conditions"

Germany is set to fund a half a billion euros for research in post infectious diseases in the next ten years

It is my hope funding will go to critical biomedical research and trials

There are obviously more publications available on the topic on repositories such as PubMED. I want to thank all those who intervened with other publications in the discussion/thread below the first paper I shared. Looking forward to more research on this very important issue

These are just some examples of publications, including in the top Science journal, which address the issue of immune dysfunction/dysregulation following SARS-CoV-2 infection. This is a topic that deserves the upmost attention in my opinion and I hope to see more research on it
