It’s no wonder that Trump has such a twisted view of war and sacrifice. And the utility of bribes.
Donald was seven years old, and his father was brought before a U.S. Senate committee investigating abuses in a housing program for war veterans and middle class families. President Eisenhower had been outraged to learn of the bribes that developers paid to bureaucrats and of the alleged profiteering practiced by Trump and others. Ike called them "sons of bitches."
As federal investigators had discovered, the elder Trump had collected an extra $1.7 million in rent-equivalent to $15 million today-before beginning to pay back his low-cost government loan. He was able to do this because a bureaucrat named Clyde Powell approved the paperwork.
Powell, who had never been paid more than a modest government salary, had mysteriously amassed a small fortune. (While it was clear Powell accepted bribes, the sources were never officially identified.) In addition to collecting the extra rent, Trump paid himself a substantial architect's fee. And he charged inflated rents based on an estimate of construction costs that was far greater than what he actually spent. All of this was legal, even if it did victimize taxpayers, veterans, and other renters.

All of the fascist or authoritarianism experts describe that the cruelty is the purpose. Government doesn’t solve problems for the people, it just provides spectacle and favor for the in group and more cruelty for the out groups

"low income, elderly, disabled and sick people, children" - oh, you mean "losers". "And all Democrats" - that would be the "terrorists".

My very thought. What would you call someone who undermined America's public health defences and its cyber-security defences? A patriot? A public servant? Or an enemy agent and traitor.

Assuming we have actual fair elections. Dominion (makers of the voting machines) has been bought by a RW Trump donor.

Guess that Qatari jet wasn’t a “gift” to Trump after all.
Screenshot of tweets. Mike Madrid writes: “Joe Biden was criticized for a Chinese balloon flying over our airspace. They’re giving Qatar an entire f’ing air base.”
Below, Aaron Rupar’s tweet quotes Pete Hegseth saying on Fox News: “I’m also proud that today we’re signing a letter of acceptance to build a Qatari Emeri air force facility at the Mountain Home Airbase in Idaho.”

So much of what's posted on bluesky seems like just basic common sense. And yet acknowledging fact-based common sense is apparently a niche, radical activity these days.

Republicans declare themselves patriots, then turn around and block the paychecks of the men and women who defend America.

And what’s really wild, some of those same troops keep voting red while getting screwed over again and again.

The mainstream media loves making it seam like dysfunction in Washington is coming from both parties.

Hello?

Much of the GOP no longer accepts the rule of law, or the norms of democracy, or the legitimacy of the opposing party.

Enough of the false equivalence.

The RIFs that began Friday will reportedly cut 65% of CISA’s 2,540 employees, one of the dumbest and most dangerous moves imaginable. CISA defends the nation’s cyber and critical infrastructure. Destroying it now only makes sense if you’re afraid of election integrity.
