“Science is never settled” sounds reasonable—but it’s often a rhetorical trick to undermine consensus on issues like vaccines or climate change.
Science evolves, but some things are overwhelmingly supported by evidence.

There is such a thing as 'settled science' — anyone who says otherwise is trying to manipulate you

Scary! And even though the outcome is obvious (Tylenol wins) many won't believe it because: corporate $$. Even though, again, the claim itself comes from Oligarchy.
Same program, less power---and he knows it?
Funny how my Ontario Premier can do nothing but piss me off for years, backtracking on EV infrastructure and pushing oil and more highways, and then make an innovative and bold move like this against Tr*mp's trade war so I have to support him. human nature is confusing.

In his first campaign to lead Ontario, Ford started out as a Trump-style populist. But tariffs changed his view and he is now a consistent thorn in the U.S. president's side.
Who is Doug Ford, the Canadian politician pushing Trump's buttons?

It's scary! I have no idea what human civilisation will look like in a hundred, fifty, or even fifteen years. We will be different for sure. But I do know IT'S OUR DUTY to work as quickly as possible towards a #rewilding world, with our technological world in an *extremophile* relationship to it:
Westminster parliamentary system (by authority of 'the king'---otherwise politically powerless) works best in a multi-party system. In Canada, 'other parties' can gang up on an irresponsible executive. Any bill can trigger a nonconfidence vote and a new election at any time.
Responsible government in Canada: executive branch is accountable to the elected legislature, ensuring that the government maintains the confidence of the House of Commons to remain in power. RG concept is rooted in Westminster parliamentary system and was first implemented in Nova Scotia in 1848.
The unchecked power of a single US president is frightening.
Before last year’s election, my wife and I took our grandsons on a tour of the nation’s capital, realizing it might become quite different if Trump won. I kept thinking the symbols of democracy might turn into symbols of tyranny. We toured the White House’s East Wing. It’s being demolished now.
Currently reading your "Racing to Extinction" Lyle. Wonderful anecdotes and insights and I share your body/mind interests. It's a bit early (I'm a slow meticulous reader---lots of notes) but this post seems to confirm my notion of where you're going in the conclusion. But "wait and see" is my moto 🙏

How do thousands of voters who ("counterintuitively") CANNOT register information from outside their specialties elect leaders who are TRAINED to pay attention? www.extremophilechoice.com/2025/04/01/c...
As a Canadian I have a little trouble with the "No Kings" idea in general. As basis of constitution it also means inevitable drift to authoritarianism? Don't want to disturb the momentum now, but let's look at this again after the 18th.
Yes, sadly one species "recover[ing] substantially thanks to decades of conservation efforts" is not *progress* in the face of growing and oblivious resource extraction.
