This is the kind of night we hunker down and stay off the roads.
People in Minneapolis are in the streets defending democracy and defying fascists. They are heroes.

Yes. Right vs Left dichotomy misrepresents the reality. Which is, bigotry vs inclusivity.
One of my strongly-held beliefs is that this country will be far worse off if we end up with a dichotomy between an explicitly religious right and a self-consciously secular and even anti-religious left. To that end, I am heartened to see the number of clergy rising to action against ICE.
Running off to work on a story.

In the meantime:

Religious left: still a thing.

I really hope everyone is paying attention to who is leading the fight against fascism: women, Black and brown people, queer folks, wine moms, clergy, regular-ass Minnesotans who have had enough of ICE's shit, unions, radical coffee shops, people 3D printing a shit-ton of whistles...

Just another reminder to put on Humanity's to-do list. After we've dealt with all the "more urgent" headline matters.
For the third year in a row, Earth’s average temperature ran close to 1.5 degrees Celsius hotter than the climate that sustained human civilizations as the 20th century began, before fossil-fuel pollution started damaging the atmosphere. www.nationalobserver.com/2026/01/22/n...

I've had cattle ranchers tell me how their beautiful green pastures lightly dotted with shade trees store more CO2 than they release into the atmosphere. Not seeing shallow rooted grass ALWAYS burning carbon just for "repair" and 100lbs grain protein producing only a fraction of that in beef protein
I’ve spent decades in ecosystems labeled “sustainably managed.”
There was none that weren’t deteriorating.

Minneapolis and Saint Paul have basically mobilized into a war economy of mutual aid and non-violent defense. I’ve never seen anything like it, even during Covid. People who barely vote are guarding their schools from ICE and doing the shopping for neighbors in hiding.
This is so smart. I’m so impressed with all the different ways you’re helping your neighbors.

Any opinion with numbers beats any number of opinions.
The Trump administration has repeatedly claimed that it needs to send the military into American cities because of the unique danger faced by federal agents.

But, according to ICE's own data, the leading cause of death for agents is COVID-19.

I've been wondering too.
I increasingly wonder if US civ-mil is now operating in full Huntingtonian mode: civilians dictate political goals & mil leaders advise on technical/tactical options to implement them while siloed off from the political implications or wisdom of that advice.
