I mean, I think the fact that the NYT employs Douthat full-time to launder the views of fascists for their readership is kind of the point.
goldwagnathan.bsky.social
The fact that Ross Douthat is employed by the New York Times, the most important "liberal" media institution in the country and that Chris Rufo is one of their favorite sources, should probably illustrate the problem.
fava.bsky.social
You don't have to link to them either.

Seriously, cancel your NYTimes subscription. Don't pay for and then spread their propaganda, even as "hate reads."
fava.bsky.social
I would buy your tell-all book on this so fast.
fava.bsky.social
Nazis gonna Nazi. The NYTimes is what it is and that is Nazi.
fava.bsky.social
Do you, though? You work for the paper pushing white nationalist lies via highly paid columnists. And your own desk - criminal justice! - keeps running cover for Gestapo-like masked secret police.

If you work for a Nazi paper, you're a Nazi. And you aren't Oscar Schindler.
fava.bsky.social
Yeah. That's how they dupe otherwise decent people into paying for Ross Douthat to advance the causes of white Christian nationalism.

If you don't want to advance white Christian nationalism, you shouldn't subscribe to or read the New York Times, not even the occasional good sentences.

If the only thing that's fully funded by the government is the police. Then you live in a police state. That's just how numbers work. It's fair to judge a society by how it chooses to allocate resources.

Yes, because NYT is a fascist institution

Douthat is laundering hard core white Christian supremacy into the mainstream, with the NYT's blessing.
maxkennerly.bsky.social
Ross Douthat treats this guy like they're having some deep conversation about the relationship of Christianity and the government, but the dude is a garden-variety dull, shallow, hateful, worthless bigot with nothing interesting to say, just endless riffs on "God hates everything/everyone I do."

The Saturday Night Massacre was an illegal set of politically motivated firings done by the Nixon administration.

The phrase "____ night massacre" is broadly understood to mean corrupt, illegal firings by a president.

I don’t know who needs to hear this but the CDC is being eviscerated right now. America is not going to have any kind of outbreak response capacity after tonight. Americans’ health data is no longer secure. Say goodbye to federal public health in any capacity. It’s a disaster. We won’t recover.

It is difficult for me to express how disastrous this is.

BREAKING: Friday night massacre underway at CDC. Doznes of "disease detectives," high-level scientists, entire Washington staff and editors of the MMWR (Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report) have all been RIFed and received the following notice:

The people put in power by Trump’s MAGA movement are sadists, who actually *enjoy* hurting people they see as their lessers. And that often includes their own followers.

Psychopathic sadists drunk on real power.

Can you think of a single movie in which there is a video from the government denouncing its political opponents playing on a loop in public spaces in which that government was the good guy?

the president of the united states who has access to unprecedented levels of intel and up to the minute daily briefings is instead making statements based on fox news broadcasts from 2020 that his staff has convinced him is happening right now

My comment was somewhat facetious. While I do honestly think we need to remove the Republicans from SCOTUS because they are lawless and anticonstitutional, I also think court expansion is good.

70-something white people who watch too much Fox News probably believe this shit because propaganda works extra well on aged brains that are slowing down.

So we should be worried that 80% of the Democratic caucus in the Senate also might believe it.

i feel like everything bari weiss does is treated like she's a network exec in 1973 when she's really just a LARPer at the helm of a particularly irrelevant brand while TV news is dying.
maxtani.bsky.social
New: Bari Weiss booked Hillary Clinton, Mike Pompeo, and Antony Blinken for a roundtable on Gaza, her first major move at CBS.

Notably on a CBS call today in which the panel was floated, one producer also repeatedly emphasized the need to hear from Palestinians in Gaza (Weiss did not respond).

I honestly think the reason is even simpler than that. Stephen Miller just likes murdering people.

Anyone who was paying attention during Gamergate recognizes these tactics.

“Oh *we’re* against doxxing, of course, but that person who got doxxed totally deserved it, and yeah, sure we’ve been calling for them to be fired and their lives ruined, but *we* didn’t personally do it.”
donmoyn.bsky.social
This pretty much captures the contradictions of the politics of Kirk and Turning Point: Of course we oppose doxxing and violence, but we will absolutely use inflammatory language, false claims, and enemies list that fuels threats and intimidation.
Several days after publishing the petition calling for Dr. Bray’s dismissal from Rutgers, the Turning Point USA chapter added an update saying that it did not support harassment or the doxxing of him or anyone else.

“I think that all death threats and doxxing are unjustified and not how political disputes should be resolved in civilized society,” Ava Kwan, a Turning Point USA chapter member, said in an email on Wednesday.
But she defended the broader point of the petition, saying, “I think Dr. Antifa, who believes in violence as a political tool, should be fired, of course. Taxpayer money should not fund the salaries of terrorists.”

For years, Turning Point USA has maintained a watch-list of hundreds of professors whom the group accuses of advancing leftist propaganda in the classroom. Dr. Bray is on the list.
