This is true more often than people think it is, but unfortunately the bad music CAN disprove certain interpretations of the good music. Usually it's trivial stuff like "it disproves that they are a perfect genius" but sometimes it can disprove things like "they aren't a cynical jerk"

A big reason that people aren't reading is furniture. If you went into an Apple Store and all the laptops were on bookshelves, and you had to pull them out to find out anything about them you'd never buy a Macbook. The design of bookshelves encourages spray-and-pray bookselling.

I think the theories from former Swifties about Taylor secretly dogwhistling Nazi affiliation through selling lightning bolt necklaces and having lyrics about how the sky used to be "onyx" and is now "opalite" are the result of a whole fandom being taught to 'read' badly by the toxic Swiftie culture

Well all it can ever do is incompletely resolve the problem. I've always hated the secretly noxious and myopic politics of a lot of wholesomecore, which are usually just "libertarianism but extra queer friendly" or "punch a Nazi and fix everything (punk and not Saturday morning cartoon)"

OMG this is IT isn't it, this is the secret Americabrain problem with the "I need coffee shop AUs because real life is miserable" crowd. They feel guilty about it because they're feeding themselves toxic moralistic propaganda about how winners are good people and hard work can achieve anything

Or there's a similar one where you rewrite what someone is saying to make them say something extreme, then praise/attack them for it. My fav example of that recently is the Jude Doyle article about Robert Christgau but it's a fav tactic of people theorising about celebrity sexualities

One of my least fav fallacies is the one where people think you can have evidence of someone's inner feelings by changing out the nouns in their sentence for other ones. I have no idea why this is so popular considering nouns are how we know what someone is writing or talking about
