I love the Nobel peace prize. It's a great way to draw attention to the various war criminals, right wing ideologues, and ice chewing psychos of the world. Sure they occasionally make a mistake and give it to someone promoting peace, but nobody is perfect.

Exactly! The man in black who played his guitar like it was a rifle, he was insanely cool

Sure I haven't published a novel yet, but I think they should give me the Nobel prize for literature anyway.

Boycotting anything that could give JK Rowling money is the right thing to do on principle, but we should probably deal with the fact that materially it does nothing. If she never made another dollar she could still donate well over a million a year the rest of her life and die wealthier than God.

Hard to say as of this moment. She was a billionaire before giving 200 million away to various causes a few years ago. She might be back over that threshold again by now or might not be. Either way she has enough money to find this kind of thing indefinitely.

I'm lucky to come from a family of heretics. My mother is a trouble maker in her Bible study group. I was raised deeply religious, but still told to be skeptical of anything someone told me about religion that didn't make sense, including anything said by my own family members.

They are missing out, unorthodox interpretations are always the most interesting. What's the point of study if you ignore fresh ideas?

Unfortunate that I can't join you, but I look forward to hearing your results

Watching a documentary and being surprised at how big some of the males were. I am fortunately not being confronted by angry chimpanzees... yet
fopling.bsky.social
I forget how big chimpanzees can get. Up to 5'6" and well past 150 pounds for the largest specimens, that's just a guy

Unclear if this is true, but I swear that Granny Smith apples just aren't as tart/flavorful as they used to be. The ones near me are too bland to be great cooking apples

I bet you could get Abdullah Öcalan to smuggle a written statement out of prison directed to be read on campus. Not only heterodox but genuinely influential on world politics, he seems perfect.

Yeah the analogy seems right to me re someone who spends a lot of time gleefully simulating torture of a barbie doll and, like, I think I wanna avoid that person and not because I am confused about whether or not the barbie is actually feeling pain.

i don’t think it should be very controversial to think that LLMs are not conscious beings while simultaneously thinking that people who prompt them in hateful or abusive ways are likely hateful and abusive people and it is very strange to me that people actively choose either far end of this

There is a way in which Deleuze and Guattari take Marx more seriously than the freudomarxists did. They conceptualize the psyche along Marxist lines with an unconscious of machines ordered around production.

Thanks guys, very cool

Freud talks about how systematic philosophy and the intricate system building of schizophrenic patients are structurally similar, maybe identical. Nick Land is one of the few authors you can see switching from one mode into the other as he goes into drug induced psychosis in Fanged Noumena.

They really aren't doing anything as complicated or radical as many commentators would have you believe! Especially when reading it today while Freud's power is waning. All the key concepts are quite simple, the confusion for new readers comes from front loading the new concepts without context.

I'll admit their writing style invites it, but the mystification of Deleuze and Guattari is one of the most annoying trends I've seen in both academia and among lay readers. If you study the history of philosophy (even just Freud, Nietszche, and Marx) most of Anti-Oedipus is written clearly.

Oh wow, that's extremely cool! I love that it can switch between modes like that, a great design choice.

How precise is it? I was trying to read all the possible combinations off the unilluminated letters. It looks like it doesn't quite have enough numbers to keep track of every minute, but I might be picturing how it works entirely wrong.

I had already seen The Devils and Behind Convent Walls. The Devils is great, but I think it gets even better when watched as a companion film to Mother Joan of the Angels

"Mahdist Mouse" is this anything?
