I have been able to do it. I usually work at small to mid-sized indies as a contractor. (My last gig turned into FT this year.) Based on what I’m hearing, I’d guess I’m the exception and not the rule.

Yeah, no. I'm a contractor, I write for games, and sometimes that means writing 100% of a game's text. I'm a valuable part of the team! Contractors aren't just "support", they deserve to be credited (and treated) better than this

When I think of modern Disney storytelling, I think of three core power fantasies:

* You will achieve what your heart desires. (Princesses)
* You have the power to save the world. (Marvel)
* You are on the right side of history. (Star Wars)

We empathize with a well-written character, but we want to be a character who unlocks a power fantasy deep inside us. We want to buy that character’s lightsaber, get a cute makeover to look like them, or visit their boring-looking superhero office park “canvas” in California. We want to become more like these heroes. That is Disney’s core business.

Oh yeah! TONS of new dialogue for Commentatron and Analysis-Bot. I think I nearly doubled the size of the script in terms of sheer length.

I got to concept, co-design, and write a dynamic dialogue system with thousands of lines of commentary, so the robot announcers can make fun of you when you get slaughtered right after acquiring a power-up!

Itch's new content policy is:
