The normalization of “public expression” causing arrest on a college campus is really something. People are blaming the Trump administration but this is the central building block of the fascist turn and it precedes Trump — the work of institutions maligned as bastions of woke. If only.

Like on top of all the rest of it - the kidnappings of our students. The twisting of the judiciary. The spinelessness of any form of opposition. The people who have seemingly vanished from a place that they literally call "Alligator Alcatraz" bec they think its catchy. It's a lot. And chilling.

My career is listening to people who flee places that get increasingly unsafe. A few months of "wait & see" can make a world of difference for safety & prospects. I've lived under authoritarianism myself.
