It just feels like wasted potential. After the ending, I was so disinterested in returning to the gameplay that I just jumped to YouTube to confirm my suspicion about the theme. Yep! Just about every non-romance subplot ends with "Man, that sucks for you. Oh well, carry on then."

Aftermath has a great writeup that is more articulate than I am about this. I'd only add that their chosen solution to the ending makes logical sense to me from a gameplay perspective, but the endpoint feels like nonsense in terms of how they get there (from a narrative perspective).

And like, hey, if you want to make a game about how acceptance is good and burying the past is the best way to mend family ties, cool. But that's not what the game sets up in almost every other plot thread!

The game spends so much time establishing that Melinoe is a badass and that she's powerful. The game shows us how cool she is! And then, at the end, the game decides pulls out the previous protagonist as a literal deus ex machina. It is very unsatisfying!

I am so torn on Hades 2. The gameplay is so rad, and the combat is especially satisfying. I like that there are fun characters, and they all seem to have interesting hooks! But the plot just... it lands with such a thud at the end.

It's basically impossible to earn a living as an independent commentator on the left.

By contrast, Fox and its imitators *constantly* elevate new voices and encourage people to get involved.
