I’d been wonderful if it was fucked up of me to not make friends at work/not CF someone I met once at an anime con, and the answer is yes. It’s ok to be selective of who you let into your life cause not everyone is going to be good for you to have around

I got coffee the other day with my old zoo supervisor and they said “sometimes emotional intelligence is learning to not trust everyone”. And this really clicked with me. Not “best friending” everyone you socialize with is a good way to protect yourself.

An ex ND friend claimed she was “best friends” with a local soccer team and I’d cringed. Because they had no social skills and I couldn’t comprehend them actually having enough positive social interactions to cultivate an organic friendship. Meeting someone/having acquaintances is not friendship

Not only do I believe most people are just politely tolerating me (unless we are very close as friends) I also see other ND people talk about their friends and my first thought is “they actually don’t like you. You’re actually really enjoying and they’re just being nice”

When I was 16, my high school friends took me aside and said that I was annoying and they didn’t actually like me and to stop hanging out with them. And I get this was just Mean Girl Highschool shit, but it really destroyed how I view all social interactions
