The court records in particular are juicy reading.

My ever so great grandpa sued a guy for defamation for calling my ever so great granny a cheating witch and her son an imp. More bonkers is that he won the lawsuit SPECIFICALLY without the court actually disagreeing with the accusation.

More people should read early American literature.

It is just so much easier to understand why the US is such a clusterfuck if you read for yourself how absolutely insane those early colonists sounded.

Read the journals, read the narratives, hell, read the court records. History is right there!

This sounds like an absolute fucking nightmare, and I am so sorry you're going through it, and that so is every single other patient any of those speech therapists have.

The US needs a change of system so desperately. It's one of the reasons I cannot return, the mess would literally kill Michael.

You can't logic your way out of being burnt out. Unless you're me. Who should be able to do it and it's a personal failing that I can't

Depends on how well you stay in contact.

Personally I am coming to believe we should be writing more letters and having more phone calls, rather than trying to maintain relationships on social media, and yet... I still maintain the bulk of my relationships through social media, and people slip by.

Christopher Columbus was dragged back to Spain in chains by a crusading knight, convicted of tyranny and immeasurable cruelty, pardoned by Isabella but banned from returning to Hispaniola.

Fuck Columbus.

Border Patrol “attempted to arrest a plumber working inside a Logan Heights home but left empty-handed after the homeowner refused them entry.

The homeowner told agents she would not allow them inside because the warrant they presented did not include her address and lacked a judge's signature.”

I am, admittedly, as far as possible from physical presence as it is possible to be right now. But I've also shown up in person, back when I was on the correct continent for it, and I've observed how much of what I was taught for protest techniques truly hinges on capable logisticians.

Boots on ground doesn't even have to be physical! It can look like coordinating logistics, or building secure information distribution lines, or even just giving money.

Reposting... Does really very little, except to ensure the conversation remains mainstream. That's not NOTHING, but. Not much.

If I could get my diagnosis confirmed by a simple blood test, instead of having to deal with eight zillion layers of "sorry this can't be accepted as a disability diagnosis because there's no way to prove it" I might actually cry with the sheer relief of being able to prove there's a problem.

And that's the thing. Tech bros think the point of creative work is to obtain an end product (in this case an imaginary city setting).

The product is absolutely not the point.

Any creative in any field can tell you: the point of art is the PROCESS.

That's where all the meaning and fun is.
impchan.bsky.social
Creativity in storytelling is just asking "What if..." over and over again, and then "yes and"ing your answers until you run into a new question. It is absolutely bullshit, but it makes sense and is believable bullshit because there was a thought process involved in creating it.

Need names? Well, history papers are full of 'em, and the bonus is that you get to learn something in the process.

Need descriptions? Pick a theme and lean into it. My bridges are named after waterbirds and themed to match. Because pelicans and flamingos are hilarious visual motifs.

But you know what I have at no point used or needed for any part of this process?

GenAI.

I've looked up archaeological & sociological research papers, learned about architecture and technology, checked spells and system rules... But no part of this city was developed through unethical word salad.

A lot of the notes in those pages are just a word or two for something that exists as a whole 3D image in my head. The sense of space, the density of buildings, that's not something I've written down, it's a model my brain is actively building as I keep thinking. It's becoming a bit cramped in here.

Unfortunately, having spent the last week planting the seeds of an imaginary city in my head, and a day playing D&D in it, I am now entirely unable to stop the growing process.

I keep having more questions occur to me, and answering them brings more questions. My reference doc is only 30 pages, but

The constant struggle between my anti-carceral beliefs and this country’s need to chase down white collar crime like CBS cops chasing a straggly serial killer who leaves rhyming clues and just offed beloved number 4 on the call sheet.

I report the AI ads as misleading or a scam. Every AI product, every Google ad for it I see. I also block those ads. They go in waves, where there will be a fresh batch every six weeks or so, but it does stop them for a bit.

I don't know if there's such a thing as a "world cyberwar" but I think we are in one? and the US is determined to lose it. 🧵

Today the admin is mass-firing the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), the nation's cybersecurity protection across all levels of government.

This is one of those videos I will always reblog.

Shakespeare performed in a vernacular way is just as brilliant as Shakespeare performed in a classical way, but significantly more comprehensible to the average person. And the results are always so good!

whenever i encounter people who say they can't understand shakespeare verses I always send them this clip from the 2019 Shakespeare in the Park production of Much Ado About Nothing

“Someone” cancelled my family’s flight out of the country at the last second.

We got our boarding passes. We checked our bags. Went through security. Then at our gate our reservation ‘disappeared.’
