To me, a live action remake of an animated film is the equivalent of a photographic recreation of an impressionist painting. Not only is it pointless, it fails to understand the artistic value of the original intention. All they are is unnecessary and a waste of time and money.

The creators of ‘K-Pop Demon Hunters’ have dismissed the idea of making a live-action adaptation:

“It’s really hard to imagine these characters in a live-action world. It would feel too grounded. So totally it wouldn’t work for me.”

I heard Eric Slotz was like this on the set of Back to the Future (before he got fired and replaced by Michael J. Fox).

Tom Wilson once talked about it in an interview:

My feelings on Doug Walker are incredibly complicated… and very similar to this awesome video I saw a while back by a guy named @spacemanscott.bsky.social.

Seriously this is a video that should be watched by everyone using YouTube:

…but, God damn it I still love a lot of those old videos by Lewis, Lindsay, Erod, Tony Goldmark… and yes Doug (unfortunately).

@marzgurl.com You know, I’m kind of the opposite of this guy - I have an incredible amount of (pardon the pun) nostalgia for that stupid site and all you guys…

Yeah, yeah I now know the working conditions were awful and I don’t want to romanticize the past too much…

Well I don’t know if it’s so much “repressed evil urges” but more just an immature sense of humor.

Fun-Fact: When I was studying animation at Uni I actually had a lecturer who worked on this movie. She said Zack Snyder was REALLY NICE… but she also showed us a storyboard of one of the Owl characters and Zack - in his online notes - had drawn spear going through its chest and a gymp in it’s mouth.

Disney, stop trying to make Tron happen. It’s not going to happen.
jameskgunn.bsky.social
Do you know what Disney should’ve made instead… a third Fantasia film.

Like it makes just as much financial sense… and to be honestly has WAY more potential.

Tron has failed miserably at the box-office twice before. What exactly made them think things were going to be any different this time around?

Don't worry, American culture was also threatened by the ninja turtles based on nothing but "New is bad, old is good"

I not sure about “viable alternatives”: I guess that’s true when it comes to live action family films… but there are plenty of family animated movies aiming for the same demographic,

And also the Star Wars films are actually good… they were well reviewed by most critics and audiences at the time. Plus it was something original and creative.

These live-action remakes are just soulless rehashes of much better and more creative films you could be showing your kids instead.
jameskgunn.bsky.social
I never said these movies were making people dumber…

What I am saying is that parents should have standards about what their kids should watch. Like showing them something to shut them up is a terrible mentality… just because kids don’t have standards doesn’t mean their parents should.
jameskgunn.bsky.social
Like sure kids will watch anything… but they’ll also EAT anything. Why is a child’s entertainment the one thing most parents don’t care about.

Like I know a it’s not as important as their food or car seat… but if you want the best for everything for your child it shouldn’t it be one of them
jameskgunn.bsky.social
And as for them being tentpole franchises funding Searchlight Oscar movies… Disney already had Marvel and Star Wars covering that… and WDAS and Pixar, and several high profile Fox franchises.

Like I think there’s something wrong when people will take their kids to see the L&S remake but not Elio.
jameskgunn.bsky.social
I’m mad because the only reason Disney keeps making these God awful remakes is because people keep going to see them… and despite them getting mostly negative reviews over the past decade and a half people still haven’t learned their lesson.
