White women falling all over themselves to defend Bari Weiss as some sort of fucking girl boss just showing their whole asses by not even bothering check in with her new employees to find out how the first week went. Spoiler alert: not good. www.status.news/p/bari-weiss...
'We Just Got Elon Musk-ed'
Bari Weiss’s first major move as CBS News chief has staffers on edge—ordering every journalist to submit a written memo justifying their work, in an apparent Elon Musk-style loyalty test.

This should be hung from every overpass in Virginia.
Sticker based on the Don’t Tread on Me Gadsden flag popular among Libertarians. It is seen on many Virginia license plates. Sticker has a snake that is google eyed with text No One’s Treading on You, Sweetie.

“Free knitting classes for furloughed feds have been a regular offer at the Fibre Space yarn shop in Alexandria, Virginia, since 2013, when the government shut down for 16 days. Fibre Space staff and volunteers held the classes again during the 34-day shutdown of 2018.” 🎁🔗
Furloughed and frustrated, feds channel stress into new socks
Since 2013, the Fibre Space yarn shop in Alexandria has offered free knitting classes for furloughed federal workers during long government shutdowns.

It’s amazing how something as simple as using Montreal steak seasoning can trigger memories. From first tasting it on food prepped by a family friend. He passed about a decade ago, but his family’s kindness still lives with me. And I think about the times I have used it cook for my friends.

“Who was president in 2020?” remains one of the most pertinent questions in American politics—absurd, yes, but here we are—and that extends to “who was president January 1 - 19, 2021?”
joycewhitevance.bsky.social
That’s a nice trick, since Biden wasn’t the president on Jan 6.

I can’t tell if it’s my age or what, but for me and so many people I know, we’re going through the worst year or two of our lives both personally and professionally, not including all the things happening politics wise. Though some of it’s also related to policy, but a lot isn’t.

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

I really recommend browsing a reddit called "Is this AI?" for this purpose. people post questionable images and commenters weigh in on their validity, but are required to provide specifics as to their reasoning. once you start seeing the signs, it gets easier and easier over time

I genuinely cannot express how vital it is that you train yourself to recognize AI-generated images and videos for your own good because none of this is going away and many, many people are counting on you to fall for their shit

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

One of the more incredible stories out of LA this year has been how a taco review blog became the best on-the-ground coverage of ICE raids in the city.

They do a dispatch every day, follow-up on the kidnapped people (which almost no media outlet has done), and fact-check government claims.
