Seagazing, I wonder. These sparkles must be telling secrets.

Nah, Beach Crow says. The sea whispers her lickle myths into shells. All about moons & stars & comets.

But that's how most water began. As comet ice flying through space.

Cor, says Beach Crow. That's why she's full of sky.

'But to praise despair is to condemn delight, to embrace violence is to lose hold of everything else.'

Ursula K. Le Guin, The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas

#BookWormSaturday
(is celebrating short stories)

🎨 Jennifer Moses
Painting of sunrise or sunset over a calm sea. Lemon yellows and blue- greys. The sun peeps over a thick line of cloud above the horizon. It is reflected on foreground ripples. Suggests maybe a moment of unexpected happiness.

Sometimes, as acquiring/commissioning editor, my only wish for people who want to submit to the venue:

Read the magazine/journal/lit mag you are submitting.

Get a feel/tone of it. Otherwise, you will be sending something that doesn't really fit their vibe.

1429) Vonbot. Mysterious European aristocratbot who's very keen to have you for dinner in its unnecessarily large gothic mansion. #SmallRobotsRemonstered #Halloween
An ovoid robot with banded arms and legs and an antenna. It's wearing a dark, high-collared cape with a scalloped hem, and its antenna has little bat wings on it. It's holding a Winebot filled with dark liquid, which is smiling evilly. Vonbot itself is extending one arm towards the frame, has a raised eyebrow and a crooked smile that reveals two small fangs. Vonbot isn't casting a shadow, but the Winebot is.

Happy #Invertober Day 10!

Common earthworm (lumbricus terrestris)

Went for a different style as I wasn't sure how to make an earthworm aesthetically pleasing 😅

#Invertober2025
Black and white drawing of an earthworm in an S-shape on its side. The words would you still love me follow the curve on the left and the words if I was a worm follow the curve on the right. The background is an elaborate symmetrical doodle of teardrop shapes of varying sizes.

Here's a little cartoon for #WorldOctopusDay 🐙
Ink and watercolor cartoon showing an octopus peeking out of a coconut shell underwater. The octopus says: "I've been working on a novel, but I'm afraid to show anyone. Maybe I'll put one page out there." A fish swims up to look at the page and says, "That stinks!" The octopus disappears inside the shell and says, "Everyone's a critic."

Forgive me, I am by nature an open book,
but was discarded carelessly halfway through
a reading, pages splayed, binding strained.
But regard the spine: creases long and smooth
as the lines of the South Downs viewed from afar.

A chance, my friend, that’s all I ask.
