I have no idea why I looked at Simon one day in 2015 and realized he distantly resembles this man (I think it's just the nose and how Simon's eyelids would sit with eyes slightly closed), but it continued to be a favorite bit of Simon Trivia by virtue of "sounds absurd, but…you *do* kind of see it."

He was King of FaceTime (started with Skype—he'd sprint across the house when he heard my ringtone on my mom's phone), picked up a slew of dog behaviors from Sally in his childhood, had a fascination with printers, would sing duets with me, adored belly rubs, & was an absurdly large freak of nature.

Nicknames include Sim (rhymes with "sign"), Simon-wimon, the Sighing Man/just "the Man," Slime, Salmon, Simon-wimon-gerkensteiman, Simoninsky et al

Comparisons include "If he were a human, he'd sound like a combo of Neil Patrick Harris and Robert Goulet" and "His face is vaguely Patrick Warburton."

I had to say goodbye to the guy who's been my best pal since childhood today.

I half-jokingly call(ed) Simon my brother, but it's because we did actually grow up together. I was 9; he was a white kitten who grew up into a humongous toasted marshmallow.

End-stage kidney disease is a scourge.

Hilariously, I don't think that was one of the buildings with many ghost sightings.

(I lived in my school's ostensibly most haunted building for 2 years + had 0 run-ins with anything weird, because…if ghosts exist, I reckon they operate on "You don't bother them; they don't bother you." Like bees!)

When I was in uni, I spent a fair bit of time in the music building despite not being a Music major or minor (voice lessons, access to recording spaces, etc).

Lovely building! Near and dear to me!

…also felt *super* weird + confusing to navigate if you were in one of 4 identical hallways at night!

As someone who genuinely finds Gothic architecture "cozy," there's much to be said for "All the little nooks are comforting—but the shadows on the walls *do* look a bit odd at times."

The "friction" exists in real-world spaces, so games that don't suppress it read as more honest than those that do.

i think the (false) paradox of "the cozy game" is that it's far more memorable when there are elements of weirdness / unknowns / uncertainty in the world to it, like how early animal crossing neighbours were kinda mean sometimes and sims 1 is sorta creepy sometimes. the friction of consciousness

...it also has a really juvenile "architecture" joke that I think of whenever faced by "Can we [as a writing/editing team] get away with this?" because the answer is almost always "Yes, as long as it's tonally cohesive."

I heard that line in my brain 4x last month. "Nova's Ship" is a SILLY game. 🤣
