Because itch.io is by far the best store out there for game developers, and also players imo, and has been given a hard time lately, I just put my game InFlux Redux on there, and upped itch's rev share to 30%. I want 'em to have a little walkin' around money impromptu-games.itch.io/influx-redux

I just finished playing InFlux.

It's like Sonic Frontiers inside Windows Wallpapers but also Sonic is not there. Also with actual neat physics-based puzzles and serious Boards Of Canada vibes, which I appreciate.

An excellent roll-playing game. Full of ballsy moves and, um, attractive mechanics.

if a hundred million people start playing a new as-a-service game that just came out, it's a huge mistake to think those people are looking to play more games like that. they're looking to play that game. very few people are open to playing more than one of the same sort of thing

The trouble with chasing trends in general imo is:
a) you probably haven't correctly identified a trend at all.
b) if you have, the trend will definitely be over before you can respond to it

Yeah, I like American Nightmare but in spite of the trendchasey bullshit it was doing - paying to unlock weapon crates and stuff. Bizarre misguided stuff.

And that's got so many advantages: decades of massively strong experience with multiplayer FPSes, they make the engine itself, they had 95% of the game already and were able to pivot to BR in no time flat

It kinda feels like Remedy doesn't make as much money as they'd like on what they pour their hearts into, and someone thinks the Real Money is gonna be in compromising on that when actually the reason they ever do well at all is folks love the stuff only Remedy can do?

Remedy's the last company I would expect to just chase random trends like that. I can see thinking "hey we can leverage this existing IP of ours into a new trendy genre" for about a second before realising how illconcieved that is, how those are two completely separate audiences

FBC Firebreak not doing well is the least surprising thing... it felt like such a cynical production based on a bunch of vague spontaneously-materialising conventional wisdom of Where The Money Is, like when everyone was cloning stuff like Angry Birds and turning around shocked when it didn't work

What UVing in a good level editor tool is like:
Select a face and Alt + RMB on hovered faces to flow it to that face.
I can also flow it from the hovered face to the selected faces with Shift + Alt + RMB (coming in Scythe 0.7).
