Since more people are coming over here, here's my spiel

If you have the means to start a gaming publication, there has never been a better pool of young, experienced talent available to make something special. Anyone with the capital and motivation to start a website/magazine/etc should consider it

It’s a small touch, but I missed boosters having a variety of art. Glad this and Lorwyn are bringing it back. Hopefully it stays

Absolum combines classic fantasy brawler mechanics, top-notch art and music, and a roguelite progression loop. The result is an incredibly fun cooperative adventure. Read our full review. gameinformer.com/review/absol...

At MagicCon Atlanta, I spoke to a lot of Magic: The Gathering designers and creatives. In doing so, I picked up on one prevailing thought: Magic is for anyone, not for everyone. Making everyone happy is impossible, and that's okay.

My piece for @GameSpot.com:

The Minds Behind Magic: The Gathering Say They're Making It For Anyone, Not Everyone
The main message from MTG's creators at MagicCon Atlanta is that they won't please everyone, and that's okay.

The only correct take on a fundamentally anti-human technology.
Screenshot of David Simon interview
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

We can't have the "why aren't these games that need visibility being covered?" conversation without the "Games media needs to be supported and sustainable outside the control of profit and growth junkies" conversation
johncarson.bsky.social
1. Yes, more smaller games should be covered by the games press.

2. It's the middle of October and EVERYTHING is releasing right now, so I get why smaller games are pushed aside this time of year.

3. Why are smaller games pushed aside? Well, there's not enough staff to cover even the big stuff.

It's 48 hours since Little Rocket Lab launched, we've been top of New and Trending for the entire time, 94% rating on Steam, huge player numbers, big numbers on Game Pass, tons of streams and YT videos...

and we've still received next to no press at all

The press for smaller games is just dead.

Gamers- I need your help! Back in 2019 my Grixis Cube was featured on Magic Online as a Spotlight Cube, and ever since then I've always wanted to update the Cube for another run based off of what I learned from that experience and about Cube broadly since then- and now might be my chance!

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

Little Nightmares III is too repetitive, and the new features Supermassive added are underbaked, but it’s still a fun time trying to escape this spooky world.

More in my review👇

Outside of a few underbaked additions Supermassive has introduced, we'd welcome more variation to Little Nightmares III's formula. However, even if it offers more of the same, it’s hard not to smile whenever the adventure sends chills down your spine.
