Night #27: The Crawlers (1991). The environment strikes back! Entertaining concept with radioactive trees taking no prisoners. Although the execution was understandably limited by the budget (a long-standing trend with horror movies). Take care of the earth and it will take care of you. #31DoNXVII

EVIL DEAD (2013): Made it to 31+ films in October again! Celebrated by dipping into the most consistent franchise in horror. This visceral interpretation is best watched at full volume. 😈 My review from 2013 still applies - boxd.it/18xMx. Via @screamfactory.bsky.social 4K UHD. #HHype2025 Pt XXXI
Night #26: Pulse (2006). Slick, gloomy, polished remake of the 2001 Japanese original which I probably should've viewed first. Gave off some warm and fuzzy vibes of mid-2000s tech, not unlike how The Net (1995) makes me reminisce over mid-1990s tech. Most enjoyable quality of both films. #31DoNXVII

Night #25: Night of the Demon (1980). First learned about this b/z-movie many moons ago via a hilarious compilation video on YouTube of all the outrageous kills with the film's intro lounge music playing (currently N/A). Bit of a drag but the gore was creative given the cheap production. #31DoNXVII

Trey Yesavage struck out 12 batters and walked none in seven innings of one-run ball in Game 5 of the freakin' World Series.

He also generated 23 whiffs tonight, the most by any pitcher in the World Series in the pitch-tracking era (since 2008).

Here are his dozen strikeouts against the Dodgers.

Night #24: Pet Sematary II (1992). Caught an unedited TV airing of this enjoyable sequel. Eddie Furlong fresh off his breakthrough role in the greatest American action film (T2) and Clancy Brown's villainous performance is damn entertaining. The chilly Fall/Halloween setting also rocks. #31DoNXVII

Night #23: Terror Train 2 (2022). Filmed concurrently with the first Terror Train reboot (which wasn't bad IMO) I believe. This continuing chapter suffers from a script with illogical plot holes, most notably with respect to the killer. But at least the body count is up there. #31DoNXVII

Night #22: Son of Frankenstein (1939). The son inherits the sins of the father. Gotta mix some early classic horror with all the modern day selections. Horror icons Karloff and Lugosi team up on-screen with the latter introducing the subservient Ygor/Igor character to horror lore. #31DoNXVII

DRAG ME TO HELL (2009): Far too many years since I last watched this. Holds up excellently. Wild madcap madness from Sam Raimi, always his strong suit. The most intense PG-13 horror film of all time? Via @screamfactory.bsky.social 4K UHD. #HHype2025 Pt XXIII
Night #21: Haunt (2019). Things go horribly awry during a local haunted house experience. Not an original concept by any means but the execution was satisfying (mini-spoiler: even with the abrupt ending). Although killing off your customers is not a profitable business model if you ask me #31DoNXVII

Night #20: Death Spa (1988). Ever since I peeped this killer trailer (youtu.be/yQEVPYIBx2c?...) at the start of the Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986) VHS which my buddy and I rented in the mid-90s, I had to see this film and it delivered magnificently. Night #19: The Rift (1990). Must watch more Juan Piquer Simón flicks. And this one is much in the same vein as Leviathan and The Abyss etc. Also, the practical gore effects were impressive considering the modest budget. Tense moments under the sea. #31DoNXVII

Night #18: Asylum (1972). Another horror anthology from Amicus. First rewatch since my inaugural 31 night horrorthon in 2009. This film admittedly creeped out my Dad who saw it in the movie theatre. Logical wraparound story sees a young psychiatrist interviewing patients inside an asylum. #31DoNXVII

Night #17: The House of the Dead (1978). AKA Alien Zone(?). First horror anthology of the season is fairly decent. Wraparound story of the mortician discussing how each deceased client came to be made perfect sense with each chapter focusing on the comeuppance of its central character. #31DoNXVII

So that 6th inning for Toronto:

- 2 HR
- 4 singles
- 2 BB
- 1 HBP

encapsulates their entire deal and shows what makes them so dangerous. No strikeouts, obviously! and also two tanks.

Doing both is the absolute nearly-impossible ideal. And they're doing it.

Failure to return the shopping cart to one of the cart returns if you are able is a sign of someone who does not value the social contract.
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?
Night #16: The Terror (1963). A Roger Corman film. This may be where Jack Nicholson got the idea to highlight/check off his lines on a script. Because in the fantastic documentary on Kubrick's The Shining, Jack mentions how he saw Boris Karloff do this on set. Best BTS movie doc ever IMO. #31DoNXVII

AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON (1981): Somehow hadn't watched this during prior Octobers (at least since I started tracking them). It remains fantastically fun with all-time great practical fx. Also love the dreary UK filming locations. Via @arrowvideo.bsky.social blu-ray. #HHype2025 Pt XVIII
Night #15: In the Mouth of Madness (1995). John Carpenter's '90s run is underrated and this Lovecraftian film is a fine example of that. Apocalyptic, entertaining, chaotic and meta to the max. Plus Sam Neill always delivers when in his maniacal horror element. #31DoNXVII

Night #14: Session 9 (2001). One of the first studio films captured entirely on digital video at 24 frames/sec. Some visual references to The Shining (1980) in the introductory scenes of the abandoned (and very real) insane asylum. FYI this chilling film kicked off my 2002 Halloween party #31DoNXVII

Night #13: Wishmaster 2: Evil Never Dies (1999). "As you wish." The villainous Wishmaster character deserves his flowers. Plays by a set of clearly defined rules and preys on the greedy desires of humanity. Hilarious sequel to Pt. I which I enjoyed in Shocktober 2024. RIP Tommy Lister Jr. #31DoNXVII

Night #12: Night Watch (1973). Turns out that this is the only horror/thriller film which stars Elizabeth Taylor. Solid cast unravels the mystery plot of what very much feels like something that Hammer Film Productions would've released at the time. Atmospheric thunder and lightning FTW. #31DoNXVII
