Can’t decide what to buy on Prime Day?

Try: absolutely nothing, and then go support indie bookstores instead 📚

That was the second thing I thought after YAY DODGERS.

That's a great read. Thanks for passing it along.

I'm one of a chorus of people raving about @caitlinstarling.com's The Starving Saints but what a knockout book. It's a fever dream of a love story, a cautionary tale, the best book involving cannibalism I've ever read, gorgeously written and paced, with three deeply flawed kickass POV characters.

I stopped buying coffee at shops a few months ago so I could buy more books. I totally see what you mean.

This is what sucks about watching Gen X go full MAGA. I grew up on this. My friends grew up on this. And now they’re all fascist-lite or worse. Did they learn nothing?
julesanew.bsky.social
I had this from the library but didn’t have time to finish it. $2.99 is indeed a steal!

Okay, so. I finished The Starving Saints and OMFG you did not set my expectations high enough. I don't even know where to start talking about all the things that blew me away (*flaps hands incoherently*).

The writing. The creeping (and creepy) doom. The pacing. The inventiveness. All of it.
julesanew.bsky.social
Oh my goodness are you in for a treat! Both are AMAZING.

Read this. Then read the rest of the series. Then read the Starmetal Symphony books. Make Alex’s books a part of your life. You will thank me, I promise.

Love this whole series. Alex White never disappoints.

Listen, Mariners. The only safe relievers right now are the ones who haven’t pitched for the Dodgers.

#weeknightwriters #firstdraftfall Character development. Halfway in now, I’ve got a lot of “what I’ve written” vs. “what I planned”. To get to the finish line, I want to dial in where the MC is at mentally and emotionally, where she wants to get to and why. Touching base before the home stretch.

like why is my skyline filled with shit like “LLMs could be conscious! do we even know what consciousnesses is?” when communities filled with PEOPLE are being destroyed so that techbros can have the fantasy of enslaving machines? cause that’s what they are fucking talking about

Standalone, or at least that’s the intent now. There’s series potential and lots of other stories to be told in this world. #weeknightwriters #firstdraftfall

As long as the loudest folks on the left insist tone-policing, compromise on human rights, and acquiescence are our only options for a unified country, they will continue to lose the faith of the marginalized. And even when they win, they’ll just be waiting to lose the same way again.

It’s a story I’ve been trying to write for 25 years. It’s morphed a lot, but it still builds from the core idea I had all those years ago. I’ve had so many failed attempts. I need to finish a draft to prove to myself that I can. I want to learn the lessons that come from finishing. #firstdraftfall

Why did you choose this project to write for #FirstDraftFall?
julesanew.bsky.social
Because corporate America has been soooooo good at predicting the actual future, rather than the "we need people to buy our broken POS application to make back the money we lit on fire" future?

Yeah, I think kids'll be fine without learning how to make deepfake videos and crappy LLM-written trash.

Hi #weeknightwriters! I'm planning to work on an existing novel WIP for #firstdraftfall with an eye toward finishing the full draft by the end of the year. I need to do some more outlining of the back half of the story, which is where I'm stuck right now.

What kind of project are you working on for #FirstDraftFall? A short story? A novella? A novel? A script? Something else altogether?

I don't usually like full cast narration, but the Sleeping Giants audiobook worked perfectly in that style. The interview-style framing of the book almost demanded it.

I really need to listen to the next two. Maybe after I finish The Starving Saints.
