"The only way to defeat divisive far right politics is to build an app that makes it really easy to see if someone has undesired characteristics."

- Very smart people on UK Bluesky today.

Just plain weird how there seems to be so many more votes in pushing zero sum politics than there is in pushing win win alternatives.

Something deeply wrong with a society that insists that some have to be seen to be losing out for a policy to be viewed as realistic.

The RIFs that began Friday will reportedly cut 65% of CISA’s 2,540 employees, one of the dumbest and most dangerous moves imaginable. CISA defends the nation’s cyber and critical infrastructure. Destroying it now only makes sense if you’re afraid of election integrity.

Part of me wonders whether the reluctance of many MSM journalists to go after Reform and Russia is because it would mean they'd have to studiously ignore all the mockery they previously dished out to the likes of Cadwalladr and Jukes over the years...

"Sceptics are privately - and some now publicly - asking whether the rapid rise in the value of AI tech companies may be, at least in part, the result of what they call 'financial engineering'. In other words - there are fears these companies are overvalued."
A tangled web of deals stokes AI bubble fears in Silicon Valley
Some are worried that the rapid rise in the value of AI tech companies may be a bubble waiting to burst.

Britain now has 1970s levels racism without 1970s levels of secure well-paid jobs, social housing, properly-funded NHS and social care, free tuition, student grants, final salary pensions and affordable rail fares

The Long Neolithic lives as a sense of wonder. It sits in distant fields and summons us to not only witness its stone persistence, but to engage with its slow release of mystery. Its power bends not only the landscape, but our sense of story. – Dr. K. Brophy #StandingStoneSunday

I just can't help thinking it would be really helpful to have someone responsible for making sure overseas forces can't fund propaganda intended to sow division in the UK. 🤷‍♂️

My new piece about Nathan Gill and Nigel Farage for @thenerve_news in which we ask:

Why, even now, is no-one asking questions?

Anybody know if we have some kind of Ministerial post responsible for things like culture and the media?

More than 70,000 people complained over GB News’s use of a hateful, homophobic trope.

This week, the regulator finally acted and declared the channel in breach.

I see a bit of a pile-on to Bienkov for the crime of <checks notes> referring to Home Office figures on racist attacks and noting that arson attacks on mosques are apparently unworthy of comment when talking about the rising tide of racism in the UK. God forbid we acknowledge racism of all forms.

But what Labour can't do is say that there is "no case" to do anything about something they are about to say is causing tax rises. It's logically inconsistent.
justlee.bsky.social
It does also highlight the foolishness of previous statements that there is "no case" for joining the Single Market, let alone the EU.

BBC asking Bridget Phillipson at length about rising antisemitism in the UK (which actually fell last year according to new figures, albeit still very high) but not at all about rising Islamophobia, which is up by 19% year-on-year

Farage, Arron Banks, and convicted Russian asset Nathan Gill have all parroted the Russian lie that NATO and EU expansion provoked Putin into invading Ukraine.

That's a lie for a Western audience. Putin is much more honest about Russia's imperialist motives when he's speaking to a Russian audience.

Pu spells out Ru's imperialist motivations for the war. He calls the conquest a long-held dream and historical destiny.

He beclowns those who insist NATO expansion caused the war. Let's see if anyone from the Mearsheimer fan club admits the claim has been falsified.
