"The only way to defeat divisive far right politics is to build an app that makes it really easy to see if someone has undesired characteristics."

It’s a pervading paradox of anglophone politics that people simultaneously love seeing civil servants fired and hate dealing with public services that are not or barely working due to a lack of civil servants.

There are reports that the *entire* office of special education at the US Dept of Education has been cut. These hardworking folks ensure kids with disabilities get equal access to a quality education.

America’s children deserve better than this.

Brexit costs us every day and, as Trump says, Farage is "Mr Brexit". Seems reasonable to start attributing the consequences of Brexit to those who pushed for it.

Trump said he deserved a cut for brokering the TikTok deal, and at once there was agreement that his son Baron would have a top executive slot... though he hasn't asked for it, and has no apparent qualifications to hold it. This is how Trump 2.0 works. www.telegraph.co.uk/us/news/2025...

Reform narrowly hold a ward where their previous councillor had to resign due to toxic racism allegations, assisted by a split on the left between Labour and the Greens (who have over 50% of the vote here between them).

something quite brain-melting about the hard right's position apparently now being "we hate all Muslims and distrust Muslim states, aside from that one Muslim place that still has slavery because that sounds fun"

Huge explosions were seen as Israeli air attacks hit a town in south Lebanon, killing at least one person and injuring at least seven others.

The strikes targeted a site that sold excavators and other heavy machinery.

Yet according to recent estimates, generative AI now accounts for roughly 40 percent of the United States’ gross domestic product. In other words, if the AI spending boom falls apart, it could take down the entire economy with it.

They could try the seemingly out of fashion thinking of just being honest? That they acknowledge the UK would be better off in the EU and that they see that as our preferred strategic direction, but that it's not practical whilst there's a high risk of a Brexiteer government - it's up to the voters.

The fact the British political system went along with, and even now still tries to prop up, such an obviously self-harming policy is utterly frustrating. The majority of MPs and members of the press *knew* it would lead to this, but they went along with it anyway. Cowardly dereliction of duty.

Starmer blaming #Brexit for tax rises may be accurate but when only 37% of a now disproportionately dead electorate voted for it almost 10 yrs ago, based on undeliverable lies, the questions are why should the rest of us stomach it & where is Labour’s plan to change that? archive.ph/2025.10.10-2...

Limited liability is one of our weird silences. It's a massive free gift society makes to plutocrats, seldom remarked upon, let alone contested.
Shareholders should have to buy limited liability, like any other insurance. The insurers would then be liable. 🧵

Between 2019 and 2024 in real terms EU exports grew by 11%.

UK exports also grew. By 0.89%.

That's the total. Goods exports were lower in real terms in 2024 than in 2014.

And why was Farage putting out similar pro-Russia messaging at the time? Would it be worse if he did so because they were his genuine views rather than views he was being paid to provide?
