that French guy, and his Monegasque cousin who also went to A&M, are at it again
From The Athletic’s Pulse newsletter, a blurb about Valentin Vacherot (a Monegasque tennis player who attended Texas A&M) upsetting Novak Djoković, and Vacherot’s cousin Arthur Rinderknech (a French tennis player who also attended Texas A&M) upsetting Daniil Medvedev in the Shanghai Open, both advancing to face each other in the finals.

my favorite of their tweets, from years ago, was “freshman cadet caught vaping in section 128, warned and released to a senior cadet”

if I’d been caught vaping in uniform at a televised game, I’d sooner have dealt with the cops than my own upperclassmen

many thanks to @surber.bsky.social for advising patience when it came to pruning my once-leggy camellias

it was so hard to fight the urge to prune them too soon or too aggressively, but they’re all blooming now and they’re SO PRETTY

there’s a clip at the back so you can convert them to sort of a racerback/X-back configuration, but the spots where the straps attach to the band and cups are fixed

one of my favorite bras, the Cate bra from Elomi, also comes in a wire-free version, but I’ve only ever used the underwire version and can’t speak to the support or comfort of the wire-free version

thoroughly enjoying the mental image of HUNTR/X singing a cover of “Amarillo By Mornin’”

As you’re picking out your Rumi costume for Halloween, know that the voice behind the character is a Texas Hold ‘Em champion from Amarillo.

Here's why if you haven’t seen “K-Pop Demon Hunters” by now, it may be time ⬇️

thank you! she’s recovering really quickly, and her doctors are very confident they got it all, so it really has gone about as well as a cancer diagnosis can, but it’s been a rough few weeks

was it awkward to have someone else move and squish my boobs and armpit meat for the mammograph? extremely!

but I’d still rather deal with that discomfort every year for the rest of my life than let a cancer go undetected until it’s too late

GET. SCREENED.
kacienr.bsky.social
Mom’s breast cancer was caught SUPER early, and her options for treatment were

1. multiple lumpectomies with follow-up radiation (which has serious potential side effects), or
2. double mastectomy

either way, that is a LOT of surgery! and this was about as close to the best case as it gets!

now that I’ve returned home from helping my mom recover from surgery and have just had my first mammogram, a PSA:

also, if you think the Kalmyks have a neat history, look into the Mari people - they’re the only ethnic group in Europe who have retained a shamanistic faith and were never fully converted to Christianity or Islam

I have a treat for you: an animated retelling of a Kalmyk folktale called The Horned Khan

(it’s in Russian, but don’t worry, it’s subtitled in English)

I was at the LFC-Man U match at Williams-Brice! it was a fun atmosphere with a packed crowd (despite the absolutely hellish thunderstorm that hit five minutes before they opened the stadium gates), and they even had Cocky dancing to Sandstorm with the full light show during halftime
A photo of Williams-Brice stadium shortly before kickoff of the LFC-Man U preseason match in August 2024, taken from near the top of the bleachers on the northeast side. The stadium is packed with red-clad fans, and the stormy gray-blue sky is lit by a brilliant orange sunset just behind the scoreboard.

turns out there are two different Residence Inns in Midtown, one on each Peachtree Street, LESS THAN A MILE APART
A Google Maps screenshot showing the two Residence Inns in midtown Atlanta. One is on Peachtree Street NW near the Midtown MARTA station. The other is about 3/4 of a mile north of the first on Peachtree Street NE, closer to the Arts District station and a bit further off the I-75/85 connector.

I once traveled to Atlanta for an event, and told a friend who was also traveling from out-of-state for the event that I was staying at the Residence Inn in Midtown on Peachtree in case she wanted to stay at the same hotel and carpool

Jesus Christ there really are two Peachtree Streets next to each other

Atlanta, this is no way to run a society

Today, more than ever, we must return to the heart, the center of feeling and emotion, the locus of freedom. Though it includes reason, the heart transcends and transforms it. Only by returning to the heart can we undergo a true ecological conversion that transforms our personal
