Just a reminder that Wikipedia is the only remaining reliable source of information that right wing billionaires can't control. (Although they'll never stop trying.)

Please donate to them whenever you can. Even a little bit helps.

I think we really should stop using antifa and just fully say anti-fascist and get them saying they are against anti fascism. Using antifa is giving them some distance and I genuinely think some of their base don’t even know that’s what it stands for.

I think Zohran is great and inspiring and much needed right now, but all he's doing is like the job as it's supposed to be. Starts with a set of principles and advocates for them. It's like how everyone goes crazy for Chotiner for just doing the job. Not an indictment on either of them but the rest.

It seems there are two main reasons things haven’t gone completely to shit in the US: 1. Lawyers and the courts; 2. Journalists and the media. Most of us can’t do anything about the first, but we can support journalism. Stop complaining about paywalls and subscribe to news & donate to public media.

The GOP supports, celebrates, and encourages so many moral atrocities that I can’t even imagine what’s in the Epstein files at this point.

Game theory, democratic theory, feminist theory, the civil rights movement, and more all agree on this: unite for independence or lose.

Henry Farrell on the Trump admin’s proposed “compact” for universities, arguing that the rollout signals weakness, and that academics need to band together to reject this authoritarian attack on university independence and academic freedom.

It's clear by now that the Democrats won't press this case as aggressively as it needs to be pressed, and the media won't do that unless they have Democrats' quotes to use as a springboard either.

They won't do this work, so it's even more important that we circulate these stories ourselves.

I really believe that huge majorities of Americans don’t want masked soldiers shooting priests in the street. They don’t want naked children ripped out out of their apartments in the middle of the night and handcuffed. We win by making sure these stories get told.

The same people who insisted devout Catholic Joe Biden was leading a “war on Christianity” are now cheering Trump on as his armed goons assault clergymen.

I have the same problem.

It’s just not right to have a month start with “oct” but be the tenth month.

Also: September and “sept” being nine instead of seven and November being eleven instead of nine.

I‘ve never read Harry Potter or seen any of the movies.

For a while, it was such a massive cultural reference that I was starting to feel like I should read them, but then JKR unmasked herself as a total monster and now I’m off the hook.

Inspired by a post I just saw in which someone admitted they hadn’t seen a single episode of Friends nor the film Love Actually… what cultural hole do you have that’s a bit weird for your generation?

I’ll go first: I haven’t seen Dirty Dancing.

Hopefully the whole Bari Weiss thing and Ezra Klein thing starts waking people up to the fact that corporate media is mostly populated with mediocre people who have made millions and gained unbelievable influence because they threaten nothing and tell wealthy people exactly what they want to hear.

BREAKING NEWS: Protesters and members of the press filed a lawsuit this morning over First Amendment violations at the Broadview ICE protests. We are also filing for an emergency Temporary Restraining Order seeking immediate relief from the federal government’s violent suppression of free speech.
Masked, heavily armored, and heavily armed ICE agents stare at the camera. The middle one, in riot gear and dark sunglasses, holds a rifle. ICE agents stalk through clouds of teargas outside the Broadview facility on Sept. 27, 2025

While we were sleeping:

A federal judge in Oregon has blocked the Trump administration from deploying any federalized National Guard—Texas, California, the state’s own—in Oregon.

That’s big news. Even bigger: She’s decided to hold a trial on the merits. That is: She’s putting people under oath.
Screenshot of court order, which reads in part:

“A combined hearing on the preliminary injunction motion land a trial on the meries
under Rule 65(al(2) is set for October 29, 2025l before the Honorable Judge Karin J. Immergut, in Courtroom 13A, beginning at 9:00 a.m.”

At this inflection point for Trump's authoritarian project, the democratic resistance has a chance to rise to the occasion by linking together its legal prong (lawsuits), its political prong (the government shutdown fight), and its popular prong (No Kings). A moment of challenge and opportunity.

Out of curiosity, which Hibbert book?

I’m dying to know what it is that breaks through to readers who don’t typically finish books.
