Despite many critiques, I believe that the “+5” formats are beneficial for CA, in strengthening regional cooperation. Indeed, significant steps in CA–EU cooperation bring both hopes and doubts.
CRMs are a central topic everywhere, and there is still much to research, engage with, and be aware of.

I look at Germany with what I know from authoritarian states: post-socialist Kyrgyzstan & post-colonial Myanmar. My colleague @sarahkendzior.bsky.social studied Uzbekistan first, then the US. Anthropologists know because we study humanity cross-culturally and with the history in! It can happen here!

I interviewed Skobov for my hippie book, since he was the anarchist part of a hippie commune in Leningrad in late 70s. He was very sharp and very brave. He should have been a Russian Bernie Saunders. Instead he has the honour to have been imprisoned by all Russian regimes of his life time.
Today the 1st Western District Military “Court” in St. Petersburg handed its verdict to Alexander Skobov — a Russian historian, journalist, human rights activist, and Soviet-era political prisoner.

In our book, @oxanashevel.bsky.social and I argue there should be no normalization w russia but containment until russians depose the Putin regime, return the occupied Ukr territories, pay reparations, turn over war criminals for prosecution, pursue democratization and deimperialization.

At least 20 Ukrainian civilians have been killed just this night by Russian missiles and drones. Hundreds of soldiers were killed on the frontline in recent days. These are the first results of the US suspension of military aid and intelligence to Ukraine: more deaths

What a great and intellectual keynote on radical politics against authoritarian and semi-authoritarian social contracts in the Central Asian context by @adoolotkeldieva.bsky.social at @helsinki.fi’s Populism conference organised by @emiliapalonen.bsky.social’s team.

Kilpailusta taloudellisesti merkittävistä raaka-aineista on muodostumassa suurvaltojen kamppailu nollasummapelin hengessä. Grönlannin ja Ukrainan ohella myös Keski-Aasiasta löytyy merkittävä osuus maailman kriittisten raaka-aineiden varannoista.

Quick 🧵 on yesterday's Ukraine summit (1/3):

Key takeaways:
- France & UK working on plan for one-month truce for sea, air, infrastructure
- only after signature of deal: potential European coalition of the willing (=troops) for peacekeeping
- higher defence spending

Vance can barely ski, looks like maybe his third day on skis, he’s out there causing wipeouts. He doesn’t even seem to be with his family. What is he doing alone on a mountain in Vermont having people yell at him? What did he think was going to happen? www.msn.com/en-us/politi...

Even knowing Trump was a Russian asset (despite many American leftists’ smug screeching about Russiagate being „cringe”), gotta say I didn’t expect this level of complete vassalization to happen within a month.
