Aw, thanks. It’s a good thing to have a nice reading spot.

Honestly I think the original cushion was goose down. But it’s now a non-allergenic down alternative.

the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.

Lmao is this supposed to be a bad thing?
A tweet from Bari Weiss that says “"It's shaken me to my core," a lieutenant said of Mamdani's unexpected victory in June. "The absolute dread I feel is palpable.
"
Today in @TheFP our @Olivia_Reingold talks to the cops who say they will walk if Zohran Mamdani is elected in November:”

Aw, thanks. I just love family histories.

(Toward the end of her life, I would drive out to visit her in the Berkshires. There was a reliable comic bit because she would invariable ask my name — she had dementia — and when I would say Catharine Tuttle, she’d put a tiny hand to her heart and exclaim, “but that’s MY name!”)

I had it basically rebuilt and reupholstered. Sometimes I forget it’s so old and we have this history together. But then I’m suddenly taken with it.

Here she is! I have her name, her old chaise, some silver and some china. Very lucky to have known her.
Image is a photograph of a bride from. 1938. Slim, looking tall because she’s standing on a small riser, her long dress’s train swirled around her.

Amazingly had never looked to see if her 1938 wedding was in the NYT; it was, though a brief mention.
WARWICK, N. Y., July 16.-The marriage of Miss Catharine Tuttle, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Adrian Watkins Tuttle of Watkins, N. Y., to Randolph Forman took place here today in Christ Church. The ceremony was performed by the rector, the Rev. Thomas W. Daniel. The bride, who was given in marriage by her brother, Dr. William M. Tuttle of Detroit, wore a gown of ivory satin. Her veil of brussels lace had been worn by Mr. Forman's mother at her wedding. Miss Ruth Briggs of New York was the bride's only attendant. Mr. Forman, the son of Dr. and Mrs. Howard S. Forman of Lee, Mass., had John Queen of South Orange, N. J., for best man. A small wedding breakfast was given by Miss Adaline Terry Tuttle, the bride's aunt, at her home here. Mr. and Mrs. Forman will live in New York.

Pathetically realizing I could probably still sleep on it now, at 5’2”.

Reading a book right now on my chaise that I took from my great aunt’s house when she died. Sudden full-body sense memory of sleeping on it one very crowded Thanksgiving. My fate as the family’s smallest (though not youngest) child.

Every time someone makes me read something Peter Thiel said it’s like “Scrooge McDuck is Jesus Christ and Huey, Dewey, and Louie are Gabriel, Raphael, and Uriel and Daisy is Mary Magdalene and that’s why women voting has lowered American sperm count.”

Transcendentalist men were trash, especially when compared with Trabscendentalist women.

Given the framing, I guess any criticism of Weiss means I’m “hysterical” and part of a “mob.” But don’t you see any contradiction between journalists covering the news and “entrepreneurs” trying to “sell” it? I sure do.
