I'm laughing at your simplistic view of things. It's not my expectation Trump would follow the laws; Vought has made that clear, if it wasn't already clear. It's that, if they failed to give notice, it provides a hook for the ensuing lawsuits.

About the meandering Trump "quote" I made up & posted earlier… When I saw the Nobel Prize Committee's post quoting Dr King on injustice, I read it, then for who-knows-why I imagined Trump saying it, and with that the meaning suddenly flipped from a lament to a strategy.

This defense of the compact, from one of its architects, makes clear that there's no limiting principle in the perceived problems or solution: the U.S. government (actually, DOJ) would like to operate for universities just like a new board of trustees. Goodbye, state, alumni, and private control.

Gov't provides loans to students.
Gov't provides grants to some students.
Gov't provides money to profs at schools in return for which the profs are to perform research or other things of value for the gov't or the public good.

Puzzle for me: Which of those is an "investment" _in the school_?

All I know about Flanagan is that she has a profile on Twitter. As I read her post, I thought maybe it was sarcasm, and then when I got to the "almost like a daughter" part I was _sure_ it was sarcasm. And at "We all are," I was double sure. 🤷🏻‍♂️

They're rules, created by statute, as an exercise of Congress' rulemaking authority under Article I, section 5. Procedural rules, unless set down in the Constitution, are rules like any other rules in the Senate Rules. The legal concept is called anti-entrenchment, that no legislature may tie...

The Trump administration is offering $60K in student loan forgiveness as a recruitment tool for ICE, which just proves fighting Biden on student loan relief was never about the loans or “paying your own debt.” It was about who was offering it and who it would’ve helped.
