Even when given a screenplay to adapt into a comic- there is still work involved in adapting it. It was popular a few years ago for screenwriters with failed pilots to try to get their work made into comics (so it might get picked up later as tv.) It's not a 1-to-1 & a lot of them didn't understand

Comics are actually very difficult to write if you’re coming from a prose-writing background.

It’s a VERY different skillset from prose—in fact, it’s closer to writing a screenplay than a novel. You gotta know enough about film language and camera to make the comic panels & art *mean* something.

Pro tip: you cannot just copy & paste paragraphs for panel descriptions & call it good. It will not go well. A writer should also keep in mind how it could look at print size; there are FAR too many books with 7-9 panels a page and no room for much art because of all the dialogue that's shoved in.

I have seen some cool staging where the "wall" is invisible and the characters are framed in picture frames or bookshelves. Getting the info across and general vibes is more important than setting accuracy anyway <3

ALSO: is there dialogue in the panel? Consider what the word balloons are going to cover before you slave over an intricate bg that will just get covered anyway.

First page/panel: establishing shot of the setting. Subsequent panels: if they are interacting with an object too big to hold, OR if they are shown in full body = background. If it is a knees up/multiple people in one panel? No background, but use colors that complement the setting.
