Basically how I've been internalizing it lol

so yeah, of fuckin course americans don't go to the goddamn doctor. of fuckin course we get sick, and ignore it, and it gets worse until we literally have to.

jesus fuckin christ.
chiiri.bsky.social
nevermind treatment. nevermind a competent doctor. nevermind one who actually listens to you, and gives you meds that work, recognizes if youre getting better or not, and you can afford it at that point.

we ALL know someone who got burned like this, even when it was obvious.
chiiri.bsky.social
anyone in the US with a disability or chronic condition knows the struggle:

Being passed from specialist to specialist, if you can even find one, all the while insurance (if youre lucky enough to have it) fights you at every step to not pay for it, and spending THOUSANDS just to get a diagnosis.
chiiri.bsky.social
shame paired with high costs and a system that does not thoroughly check in with patients or screen them allows SO many people to go by until their condition is serious or even life threatening because people wont go to the doctor until they feel they HAVE to.
chiiri.bsky.social
the other major factor is the system itself, especially when it comes to chronic, invisible, or mental illnesses. these people fall through the cracks EASILY and are routinely ignored or dismissed until their symptoms are visible or dangerous.

and then, again, blamed for it.
chiiri.bsky.social
having medical debt is seen as a personal failure, because that must mean you also failed at having a good job, a good quality of life, good hygiene, personal habits, etc rather than luck of the draw that you got sick or other failures of the system.
chiiri.bsky.social
-or repossess your belongings and FEW people ever check them on this because most of us know someone who WAS screwed by the medical system, so people are TERRIFIED of going to the doctor until they absolutely have to.

any kind of debt is a massive social stigma here, but especially medical.
chiiri.bsky.social
debt collectors can and will threaten your job, your savings, your car, even when its illegal to try and get you to pay up. theyll outright lie to you, they will harass you constantly, everywhere you go.

theyll say youll lose your house or cant get further treatment, that theyll take your paycheck
chiiri.bsky.social
Money, or prior experience with being burned by the US medical system, or both.

people here are TERRIFIED of medical debt, and it isnt helped by that debt collectors routinely ignore the law and are encouraged to break it, with victims of it being ignorant of the law themselves.
chiiri.bsky.social
before you leave that 'how could they let it get so bad' comment on someone's post about their medical issues, especially those from countries with universal healthcare, consider:

the answer is almost always money.

But yknow, these same folks also clamor to praise the latest game about blowing up brown people in the middle east without giving a second thought to the fact that those games are inherently political themselves so 🙃
chiiri.bsky.social
How does an event influence local politics? What conspiracies come out of it and how far do they reach? Is trade, alliances, or war affected? What groups of people DO get affected by this and what ones dont? Who stands to benefit?

Etc etc etc
chiiri.bsky.social
The increasing "keep politics out of games / writing" crowd pisses me off so much bc we all know when they say politics they really mean POC and queer folks, but using politics is a great way to elevate writing in general and keep it from being flat

there’s this weird idea a lot of people seem to have about how all of us writers and artists must secretly want to use AI and are merely resisting temptation for ethical reasons, and like, no, it’s not hard for me to resist drinking the bowl of Piss With Glass In It actually

This is the genius of the Portland protests - they make the claims of lawlessness look not just wrong, but comical

"there's a hidden darkness to this land. do you feel it?"
I tried to include the trans flag colours in the colour palette a little
#wrathion #worldofwarcraft
a drawing of wrathion from world of warcraft I drew when I thought about him saying "there's a hidden darkness to this land. do you feel it?" which I wrote beside him. his dialogue is very nostalgic and makes me happy. I tried to include the trans flag colours in the colour palette, particularly in the background :D he is a trans man

Someone on a monsterfucker group I frequent said they'd be open to smash with Smaug.

That is just wrong. Thats too far.
