Tom Rabe
WA political correspondent

I'm old enough to remember when pretty much all of the mainstream media regularly praised Abbott for being the politician with the deepest connection to Indig Australians because he visited a community every year, patted some kids on the head and hammered a few nails.

poor old Tony Abbott is on the public broadcaster dismissing the oldest and longest continuous oral histories in the history of humanity as “hearsay” how’s your morning going.

For the people of Poços de Caldas in Brazil, where rare earth elements have been discovered, the arrival of two Australian mining companies have been met with both cautious optimism and trepidation.
Australian mining giants are rolling into Brazilian towns to extract rare earth elements. Locals are worried

Also noted @grogsgamut.bsky.social comment that the fact that the NACC hasn’t caught any serious corruption in public office sends a signal to people that they probably will get away with it 😒

Ronni Salt did a very good spiel about the NACC today on the Sunday Shot. In case you missed it

A brilliant panel/discussion including the arms dealers/influence peddlers at the NPC, the failure of media/government/institutions/agencies eg. NACC, the ceasefire in Gaza, the Narcissist-in-Chief, and much more.
Congrats to Dave on the major coup of getting Chris Hedges on the show next week!

Anything less than leave it in the ground, stop burning fossil fuels will never be enough and that is the crux of the matter.

Climate warming's already amplifying hazards such as heatwaves, extreme rainfall, dangerous fire weather, droughts, floods, & sea-level rises & in turn multiplying threats & risks of compound events

🇦🇺's fossil fuel exports contribute accelerated pollution & CC impacts no matter where they're burned

This didn’t start with Trump.
Your freedoms were stolen by Bush, Blair and Howard under the guise of “the terrorisms”.
In Australia, the stripping of civil liberties happened with bipartisan support - Simon Crean being a notable exception.
Weazley Beazley was a disgrace.

About a month ago, the Trump administration got rid of the de minimis exemption, whereby packages valued under $800 could slide in without import duties. Now there's a backlog as the government can't process all of this paperwork, leading to UPS just destroying packages
Business Insider headline reads: UPS is telling customers that their packages coming to the US are marked for destruction.
