Striding towards the ferry to head north over the harbour – Sydney in February 1968 (photo by R. Donaldson, State Library of New South Wales)
b&w photo of an everyday scene near a ferry wharf taking passengers to Neutral Bay and Cremorne and Mosman – at the centre of the shot is a woman wearing a dress that's billowing to the right. Other people are all and a newspaper headline 'Don Lane in Court' is displayed.

All very excellent points.
You’re right. No one should be excluded from the democratic exercise at all.

🏳️‍⚧️ and non-binary people have enough real-world experience of exclusion that i can’t imagine they’d want others excluded based on gender.

My brain farts shouldn’t always be poasted.

When did genocide become “good”?

You can believe in the primacy of the social contract, or you can believe that society exists to support the economy.

What do you believe?

Capitalism isn’t democracy.

Deregulated free zones are the most sinister and pernicious form of corporate overreach designed to exit democracy, and bypass public participation in the decision-making process.

We had a period in Australia when only men could vote.
That didn’t work.
So we’ve tried everyone having the vote for the last 58 years.
That hasn’t worked.

Maybe it’s time to try only women get to vote.

The conservatives in Australia worked this out. All MPs and senators had a gummint-funded printing budget. Paid millions over the odds to a printing company that returned the money as a donation to the party. Perfectly, immorally legal.

I don’t know, but it doesn’t seem legal not to offer that option. Unless it’s that awful app that has its own laws.

King Charles and President Trump sharing an after-dinner cognac at Windsor Castle and comparing notes and laughing at how they and their families got away with raping children, while their crumb-maidens march the streets of England blaming migrants for all the shit the ruling class perpetrates.

So. It’s worked for you.
It’s worked for me too.
That’s not how I judge a system.
Since Keating’s Redfern speech, the gap has only widened.
The gummint (both parties) demand 4.5% unemployed to keep the economy running at its optimum but leave those 4.5% living below the poverty line 🤷

“And on that point, we will rotate the call…”
Is there any more delicious statement in #auspol?

Well, it’s worked for the few with property and power.
The foundation of all our laws were written when only men who owned property could vote.
Rape was treated as a property crime until the mid-1970s in Australia.
The police and courts still treat it as such.
