The “hypocrisy” talk is pointless. It does no one any good, because the GOP do not believe themselves to be hypocrites:

“Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition …There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.”

This video from Portland is a metaphor for what is going on in America. ICE trying so hard to get Americans to cross a line and if they don't, dragging them across the line and violently attacking.

who creates the lively art and music scenes if the rent is too high? who makes cultural life? who serves you food or washes your dishes? who creates the fancy little restaurants that draw you to urban living? affordable housing is at the heart of what makes city life worthwhile.
Oh, I completely agree with you there, I think the element of surprise is FAR more valuable. But football coaches are known for overthinking shit (hello, Matt LaFleur!), and my guess is Dan Lanning was bored as shit by Wednesday.
This very much feels like the equivalent of the “Giannis rookie year” Bucks that won 15 games. Except there is no high draft pick hope coming along with it. 😂
I’ve watched, at most, 10% of their snaps in October. It’s not a product worth investing any time or energy in. And I say that as someone who LOVES Badger football. But there’s enough other bad shit going on, I’m not about to voluntarily spend time on more.
Wisconsin football is truly my favorite team, of everything I root for. I watched maybe 10% of their snaps in October. It’s brutal.
I look at it more as a “This is an easy spot to put weird shit on film for future opponents to have to at least think about.”
Tonight might be worth it for Oregon’s Grateful Dead unis alone.

“Canada got caught cheating on a commercial” is something that used to make the family have a conversation about whether it’s time to put Mee-Maw in a home but now we just elect that person President.

...he said while voting to confirm Trump's nominees.
By refusing to work with Democrats, Republicans are willing to DOUBLE the health care costs for millions of people.

It’s shameful.
Thanks for the updates!

My continued reaction to the incredibly parochial national media obsession with Zohran Mamdani & the NYC mayoral election is that the candidate/election that really matters for broader debates about 2026/28 was Susan Crawford in Wisconsin in April.

Once again, I ask, sincerely & without being overly alarmist, what anyone has seen since January to make them believe that the 2026/28 elections will be free, fair, & democratic by any meaningful definitions of the words.

Dry run for stealing 2026 midterms.
Breaking: The Department of Justice announced it will "monitor polling sites in six jurisdictions [in New Jersey and California] ahead of the upcoming November 4, 2025, general election to ensure transparency, ballot security, and compliance with federal law." www.justice.gov/opa/pr/justi...
According to this Supreme Court? Yes.

There is absolutely nothing he could say or do that would get 67 Senators to remove him. NOTHING.
A thing I wonder about (and I don’t want to sound naive asking it but I mean it genuinely): is there any red line for any Republican lawmakers for Trump, currently? Like is there anything he could do, that he realistically might, that would get them to, say, vote to impeach and remove?

This is both true & a damning total indictment of the GOP’s complete collapse into far right authoritarianism:

But they still have more time to breathe than a movie. Which is why it hits that sweet spot for me. Too short to be bloated with bad B and C plots, with enough time to add real depth to your A plot. It’s excellent.
The first one I remember scratching this itch for me was The Night Manager (which was 6 episodes). I agree, it’s fantastic.
There have been so many exceptionally fun games already. Best opening week I can remember.
Look: I’m not sure the Association can keep this up. But this has been an outrageously good opening week so far. @nba.com

"normies do not care about this thing and so it is no use raising a stink" is imho just an excuse for not doing politics, which is the job of making normies care about something

This distraction angle is always funny, as if there are masterminds in that administration playing 4-D chess. They’re getting away with everything because this country doesn’t have real checks and balances. He’s not distracting anyone with his crude behavior. He’s just like that.

boy is that true. in 2022-3, burrito taxis going up got about ten thousand times more attention online than the fact that it was the best labor market for low income workers in like 60 years
i will note again that there is a really unhealthy, unpleasant and strong current of consumerism that runs through the left in a way that genuinely didn’t used to be true
The responses this post is getting, combined with the animating grievances of large swathes of politics, has convinced me we need a kind of society wide PSA about how Buying Things Is Optional.

You don’t think video games should cost $100? Don’t buy the videogame. Buying Things Is Optional.
