DOGE’s creation of one massive, omnipotent database could let authorities retaliate against critics of the government, undermine political foes or personal enemies, and target marginalized groups, EFF’s Tori Noble told @gizmodo.com.
With Its Destruction of Government Data Silos, DOGE Is Building a 'Surveillance Weapon'
There's a reason the government's vast trove of data is compartmentalized.

By the way: While this woman is in jail for her miscarriage, Georgia Republicans are considering a bill that would allow abortion patients to be prosecuted as murderers.

The point is more investigations like this, where all pregnancy loss is suspect bsky.app/profile/jess...
A Georgia woman has been arrested for how she disposed of her miscarriage.

Police say the woman was charged with “concealing the death of another person” and “abandonment of a dead body” because she put fetal remains in the trash.

The bad news is that you, your siblings, and your close relatives' genetic information is now accessible to bad actors who could sell or exploit it in any number of ways but the good news is your boomer aunt has a printout saying she's 24% Italian. www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2...

The genetic information company declared bankruptcy on Sunday, and California’s attorney general has issued a privacy “consumer alert.”

Once surveillance infrastructure is in place, it is subject to changing priorities and prejudices. Hungary threatening to use face recognition to find people at pride events shows why we need to ban government use altogether.

Hungary has banned Pride events, permitting the use of facial recognition technology to target participants.

Yet last month, neo-Nazis held their annual gathering in Budapest with no objections from Viktor Orbán's government.

This is why we call it gender fascism.

🇪🇺🚫🏳️‍🌈Hungary just became the first EU country to ban Pride events in Viktor Orbán's latest anti-LGBTQ crackdown, allowing authorities to use facial recognition to identify and punish disobedient attendees.

Liberal opposition MPs (Momentum party) protested inside parliament by using smoke grenades.

i feel so much rage whenever people try to justify LLM use in art by saying well what about disabled people?

disabled people make art every day. they often do utilize tools to help them create. but they don't need a machine to make art for them, and that's all an LLM can do for a writer.

We’re only two months in, & they’re cancelling research into pediatric brain cancer. They’re deporting US kids with brain cancer. They’re putting millions at risk of malaria, TB, & polio.

I for one will never forgive or forget those who said ‘it won’t be that bad’.

They claim they can snatch people up, put them on planes, and deport them to a country run by an authoritarian, where those people will be forced to work slave labor at an inhumane prison. All without due process, and in defiance of federal courts.

The hypotheticals are over. This is the nightmare.
