Hello, new people! I write literary epic fantasy (and a bunch of other things too). You're most likely here for THE WOLF AND THE WILD KING, book I of a new darkish high fantasy duology. A troubled assassin, an outlaw, human sacrifice and dragons in a winter forest. www.kvj.ca/wolf.html

I don't think I've ever tried those.

I make half as much again for my big china pie plate, or double for the a deep pottery one that holds more than a regular large 12" pan, though that makes rather a thick crust. I've used it, with more sugar, as a base for things that would have a sort of crusty foundation layer, too.

1 1/2 c. oat flour.
2 tsp sugar
1/4 tsp salt
maybe some cinnamon if you like
1/4 c. olive oil
4-6 tbsp water, as needed.
Press into pan.
For a baked pie shell (like for lemon), bake 375 10-12 min. first.

It's something I found online and adapted, about 5 years ago, and I don't remember the source, but here goes, my version:

Kiwi fruit at any hour are tasty.

I wonder if should eat pie for breakfast? It's an oat-flour crust, so that's quite a lot of oats, so it's porridge, really, with pumpkin custard, which sounds quite healthy, all in all.

Time to get to work.
I've had three nights in a row without insomnia. This is amazing.

Watching the Bibi & Don Show treat this like some grand victory, while people returning to northern Gaza dig the rubble for loved ones' remains, is pretty revolting.

Ancient Woodland doesn’t mean the trees are ancient

It means trees have been there undisturbed for thousands of years, & at least since consistent national records started in the 17th Century

It’s the soil that is ancient

The ghosts of the dying & the dead feeding the living
Ancient woodland floor covered in Autumn leaves, seeds and twigs

Not only are these data centres devouring energy & water – and feeding the AI bubble that'll blow up our economy when it bursts – they're also wasting vast construction resources (human, materials & admin) that could instead be building homes, solar farms, wind farms etc.

The right-wing campaign group that helped topple Roe v Wade in the US is now working to roll back abortion laws in the UK, with the help of Nigel Farage.

Its first step? Trying to create a debate around "free speech"

Happy Thanksgiving from Canada!
kvjohansen.bsky.social
Thank you! And Happy Thanksgiving to you, too. You're allowed pie in fellowship!

A red dawn and high thin cloud. Frost advisory for tonight but a chance of showers on Wednesday.

I've made my snow tire appointment but it's not till the end of November ... I am definitely tempting fate.

Bother. I also need to make pickled beets today.

No Thanksgiving dinner for us this year, with family ill-health and suchlike, but I did promise to make a pumpkin pie and deliver slices. I should probably do that today rather than waiting for actual Thanksgiving tomorrow, when I want to have clear decks to write.

... but I have Austen's Persuasion as a car audiobook and am really loving it, so much so that I now want to reread as audio the rest of Austen as well. (Persuasion's always been my favourite.)

Much reading, including a Cyteen (Cherryh) reread, the 12th Haruhi light novel (Tanigowa), & Goodbye Eastern Europe (Mikanowski), plus Queen Demon (Wells) to start as soon as I finish Haruhi ...

I think we really should stop using antifa and just fully say anti-fascist and get them saying they are against anti fascism. Using antifa is giving them some distance and I genuinely think some of their base don’t even know that’s what it stands for.

"even if it's AI, it's at least true" hard to overstate the damage this stuff is doing to people's brains. we're gonna be cleaning the slop out of archives for decades

Indeed it does, though I think they have enough of that to be going on with already, at this point in the plot. They'd probably rather I just corrected the map.

There was a very pink and blue dawn an hour ago; now there is a crow, or something, rootling in the eavestrough, which is a sort of linear composting experiment, I fear. Possibly it's hunting earwigs.
