On the campaign trail, @hugoforcd13.bsky.social seemed to understand that sweeps were wrong.
Now? Well, the cops and bulldozers speak for themselves.

The thing about working with cops, is, don’t fucking do it.

At best, you’re lining up your own attendees to get snatched and beaten. At worst, you’re lining up yourself to get scapegoated by the police.

Don’t fucking do it.

Reminder for those attending 50501 SoCal’s No Kings protest this Saturday. The organizers have a history of coordinating with LAPD pigs ahead of their parades. Here’s communication between the 50501 SoCal founders and LAPD regarding last April’s protest.

Ok, but he is still trying to deploy the Guard in Chicago and PDX over people in inflatable suits. We’ve seen his characterization of the protests differ from reality and yet, it’s not stopped him. This “don’t give him what he wants” line is tired.

one of the reasons they're so mad at "no kings" is that they thought they were going to get a different kind of protest. they *want* the black bloc to be out there fighting with the cops. those are the images they've been trying to generate from "go." instead--

MAGA Rage at “No Kings” Boils Over—and It Quickly Backfires on Trump
As Trump allies smear the coming protests, a good writer on MAGA skewers the absurdity of these attacks on large swaths of Americans—and explains why our best recourse will be to turn out in force.

This isn’t care.
This isn’t abolition.
This is enabling violent cops.
Eunisses Hernandez sold out her unhoused constituents.
Her team ordered a sweep, knowing it would bring known sexual predator cops to harass the encampment…just like their last sweep.
No housing.
No replacement tents.
No apology.
Hernandez staffer says he ordered the CARE+ sweep
During the interaction with Ares last Thursday, Kris Rehl, an organizer with mutual aid group LA Street Care, questioned Ares about who scheduled the sweep. Ares confirmed he was the one responsible for scheduling CARE+ operations in Hernandez's office. Upon hearing that, several of the residents responded with surprise, with one seeking confirmation from Ares, asking, "You ordered this Eric?" and another person asking him, "Why?"
Even though residents are usually allowed back after a CARE+ operation, which requires that people leave the area while a cleaning operation takes place, one resident, Claire (pseudonym), told The LA Reporter she did not believe that city officials are going to let them set back up where they had been.
Members of the encampment at that location had submitted a letter to Hernandez's council office in May seeking trash pick-up, port-a-potties, brooms and cleaning supplies and needle disposal. They also demanded permanent housing and said CARE+ sweeps don't clean, but rather destroy their belongings.
As of Sunday, residents had relocated across the street to Hugo Soto-Martinez's 13th District, Rehl told The LA Reporter.

This encampment was slowly organizing, making demands of the city, cd1 of cm Henandez and team and the response was a a sweep with no offer of housing a couple weeks ago in which 2 LAPD officers were violent towards residents—I was also shoved by a cop by the name of Solorio during this prior sweep.

Everyone from the Mountain View Community is naturally shaken up but their resolve to continue fighting for housing continues.

This is not what care looks like. This is not what abolition looks like. This is what emboldening predatory cops looks like.

Even though the sweep that Eunisses ordered destroyed everyone’s shelter and belongings, her office has failed to provide services, shelter, housing, replacement tents, or even apology to their brutalized unhoused constituents.👈

Two cops parked on the block where the encampment used to be while others, including known sexual predator Officer Robert Solorio, drove up and down the block where the encampment relocated. The pigs vowed to continue harassing and displacing them.

Yesterday, NIMBYs driving by in cars, harassed people and threatened them with violence. One couple in a Lexus promised to return and set fire to the encampment.

Around midnight on Friday, cops raided the encampment AGAIN and chased everyone, including elderly and disabled people, off the block and across Beverly Blvd into Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martinez’s district.

On Friday, people from the auto shop behind the encampment violently chucked car bumpers and other debris at everyone from the encampment who returned.

Thursday morning, cops raided the Mountain View & Beverly encampment before a sweep Eunisses Hernandez’s office ordered. Cops arrested/cited everyone with 41.18, a law that criminalizes people for existing in public. The sweep destroyed every tent, but the cops weren’t done…

The most vulnerable people in our society are under attack right now because that’s where you start when EVERYONE is going to be under attack and when Newsom arranges photo ops throwing out the tents of homeless people and spreads transphobic talking points he is doing the fascists’ work for them.

For all the talk about how important ending homelessness is, Housing sure is a relatively small bar… 🤔

Before taking office, LA Councilmember @hugoforcd13.bsky.social helpled unhoused people during sweeps.
Now? He sweeps dozens of encampments monthly.

Hugo used to speak out against 41.18, LA’s law that criminalizes being unhoused. During Hugo’s 1st year in office, 41.18 arrests rose 522% in CD13.
