Mills won her last two races in a purple state by nearly 10% each time and when the current admin tried to bully her about trans kids she publicly told them to piss up a rope and she'd see them in court. Do people want a senate majority? Because this is a must win seat and Mills has won statewide.

A lot of the blame here falls on the Democratic Party, which is (to use a technical term) mad up of pathetic lily-livered cowards who tremble uncontrollably in fear at the idea of any kind of public confrontation with the Trump administration on any issue beyond a self-selected Dull Policy Dispute.

The reason the ICE videos aren’t producing a backlash of that scale (yet) is that our institutional elites are deeply committed to ignoring them, which both reduces their spread and reduces the sense that this is something important we SHOULD be freaking out about.

This is what we need in every city, in every state! We need leaders that protect the most vulnerable in society instead of the greedy self serving pieces of garbage that always seem to float to the top.

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

News: Bari Weiss just sent a memo to staffers at CBS News asking them to produce a memo explaining "how you spend your working hours—and ideally, what you've made (or are making) that you're most proud of."

One CBS News staffer puts it like this to me: "We just got Elon Musked."

My tenets:

1) no one is free until we're all free

2) revolution requiring vulnerable members of society be disposable just to GET to the cishet white oligarchs you really want to target Feels Bad, Actually

3) be clear if you are trying to change a mind OR score points when you engage

One more thing: people are homeless because they have been deprived of housing.

You solve homelessness with homes.

Hear me out: What if it's both the hoarding and the havoc?

“The problem with billionaires isn’t that they’re hoarding money that would otherwise pay for a Scandinavian social utopia. It’s that their money has become a source of wildly distorted political power that allows a few men with extremist views to wreak havoc on the rest of us.”

Saying "I deserve the Nobel Peace Prize" should pretty much be a disqualification in and of itself for winning the Nobel Peace Prize.

my first instinct was to respond to mark with "pfffft with these democrats? no democrats will every do anything like that" because history—but i decided to go with "i'll vote for any democrat who does."

maybe we can manifest this democrat into existence.

Free healthcare to all residents of the US regardless of immigration status would rule, actually. Universal benefits for universal problems (having a body that can get sick or hurt)

A great way to turn the temp down here as @jay.bsky.team @pfrazee.com and @aaron.bsky.team want would be to stop communicating site policies and practices with individual users or on their timelines and hire a comms person who is a professional communicator to do all the front facing interaction.

Y'all who keep lecturing protesters to "not give them an excuse" need to pause for a minute. Imagine yourself telling a DV victim, "Be sure not to mouth off or make any mistakes so he won't hit you. Don't give him an excuse! It's what he wants!" That's what you fools sound like.

No real beef with the gist of this, but I am so, so sick of tongue-clucking about “division.” We have a president waging a “war within” (his own words!) against domestic urban populations. That had damn well better be divisive.

The meme war between Democrats and Republicans while the country endures a government shutdown “feels not fun but just sad, a pointless rhetorical exercise that exacerbates existing divisions,” Will Gottsegen argues in The Atlantic Daily.

Cities with high “crime rates” are resource deprived cities populated by marginalized communities. They’re often poor, have limited access to social safety nets, and are over-policed.

Excited for another day of people comparing various cities' "crime rates" instead of doing literally anything else productive and useful in this moment.

If Dems win in 2026, we need hearings to publicize the abuses by federal law enforcement. Then pass a bill creating a path to sue for those abuses. Trump will veto it. Let him. Let the public see these videos & hear from victims, & then learn there's no way to hold the abusive officers accountable.

You know, if the Democrats were actually doing a good job of fighting back, I might at least emotionally understand why people are like “don’t criticize their historical complicity” but also they’re a fucking dumpster fire right now

We need progressive leadership that is actually progressive and not beholden to capitalism.

I don’t really understand the people who think we shouldn’t situate the current moment in context of the last 25 years in American politics, including the actions of the three Democrats who were president during that time

The regime is acting this way because there are no consequences so it is clear that consequences—the development of them, the advocacy for them, the imposition on bad behavior—are the answer to our crisis.
jamiebiver.bsky.social
Why?

Isn’t it enough that people are struggling to survive? Just surviving in public is too much for some people to handle. Go struggle someplace where I don’t have to look at you. Because on some level they need to feel superior, like it could never happen to them.

Try compassion, humanity.
