having submitted my dissertation for my Classics MA a couple of weeks ago I have just started a first-year module in maths*.

the tutor is 77 and has been teaching with the OU for 56. we have access to the OU Maths magazine dating back to 1973. I'm very happy.

The trailblazing transgender rights activist Miss Major has passed away at the age of 78.

Miss Major was a lifelong organizer and participant in the ballroom scene. She took part in the 1969 Stonewall Riots and was injured by the police — but she kept fighting.

As more of my valued colleagues face the threat of redundancy, here’s a quick reminder that it takes years and years of public investment to train an academic. Cutting someone with this wealth of experience loose isn’t “saving” anything. It is a massive waste of our collective resources.

Important to remember that stories about children killed by vaccine-preventable diseases when they're too young to be vaccinated are, beneath that, stories about the loss of herd immunity.

This baby caught whooping cough from somebody. That somebody was probably old enough to be vaccinated.

Whenever I see somebody online explaining the ways they know a kid is using ChatGPT to write a paper, I am sincerely glad I'm not a child anymore. Em dashes? Oxford commas? Enumerated lists? Complex contrasting sentences? I am a hyperlexic autistic and began writing like that in fourth grade.

I'm trying this pacing app just in case it really can predict when I'm headed for an energy crash/shutdown. Had a busy day yesterday and this morning the app says "Your body is moving away from its baseline. Rest today if you can." It's good to know I'm not imagining these ups and downs.
