Day 12 of #inktober - prompt is shredded
A little sketch of my cat with her scratching post. Luckily that’s the only thing she shreds in the house

And this is how #folklore starts...

#wolfenoot

#custom #tradition #DogsOfBlueSky
Image of a social media post by Jax Goss which reads: 'My son has invented a holiday called Wolfenoot. It is when the Spirit of the Wolf brings and hides small gifts around the house for everyone. People who have, have had, or are kind to dogs get better gifts than anyone else. You eat roast meat (because wolves eat meat) and cake decorated like a full moon. A holiday to the spirit of wolves that celebrates people who are kind to dogs? I can 100% get behind this. So we will celebrating Wolfenoot. It's on the 23rd November if anyone else is moved to celebrate it (Wink emoji). (If you do, send me pics, so I can show my kid his idea spread. (Heart emoji)). ETA:Woah, this seems to be resonating and taking off. Please use #wolfenoot if you post pics or anything so he can see how it spreads. (Smile emoji) He's already excited that other people want to do it. (Heart emoji)

NEW: The British politician, his Russian intelligence handler & a Kremlin plot against the US & Ukraine.

My new piece about Nathan Gill and Nigel Farage for @thenerve_news in which we ask:

Why, even now, is no-one asking questions?

Yes.. sorry, poor comms on my behalf…that was sort of my point & you’ve made it far clearer than me! 🥹 this weekly polling seems to creates weird lenses for people to look through at what’s possible, probable & seems to create reactive politics. MPs become weathervanes rather than signposts 😳
leviathanwilde.bsky.social
If there was “an election next week” wouldn’t Reform also be scrabbling around to get vetted people to stand in every seat they would need to win to meet the polls ‘predictions’? Logistically it may be more feasible in a few years time once they have ducks in order, but not possible next week 🥹

I find it weird how people can acknowledge that UK politics is volatile to an unprecedented degree and yet talk very confidently about the shape of an election in 2029. Reform is depicted as a permanent and unstoppable force and Labour as utterly doomed. Doesn't add up to me

It's almost exactly four years since Tim Shipman's notorious "Boris Johnson squats like a giant toad" tweet.

Seems like important context given how we often talk as though the next election – four years away – is a done deal.

I mean we can’t “rejoin” because we are a third party country Tb at would have to apply. And the uk does not meet the criteria for applying as there is no cross party political consensus. But we could get a lot closer within the envelope of real achievable possibilities.
leviathanwilde.bsky.social
I would be very happy if this was a pitch rolling exercise in a proposal for a Norway style as close as possible to EU without applying to join deal. And so would the UK economy! And by extension - citizens would benefit too. I can but dream eh? 😅

After a long pause, I've just done another England Covid & NHS update as we head into the autumn/winter season.

TLDR: we're in a significant Covid wave now, the NHS is stretched, get boosted if you're eligible.

Number of deportations the ECHR have actually blocked since 1980 - 13 (THIRTEEN).

Please remember this next time some grifting populist claims us leaving the ECHR (and sacrificing the rights it gives us in the process) will allow us to ‘control our borders’.

Who benefits from the abolition of stamp duty land tax?

The first answer: people buying very expensive homes. Average saving for someone buying a £10m+ home is £1.7m. Average saving for someone buying a £250k-£500k home is £5k.

NEW: A false claim about Euan Blair found its way into Have I Got News For You.

It was from an X post seen almost 3m times - and it was wrong.

Production chief blames a "digital native" culture.

A very online media class drinking in social media = danger:

www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio...
BBC airing false claim about Euan Blair blamed on young producers ‘marinated in social media’
Broadcaster apologised after Have I Got News For You falsely said former PM’s son had won digital ID contract
www.theguardian.com
leviathanwilde.bsky.social
Have these young producers been employed having basic critical analysis skills? Does BBC not hv internal training on risks of taking digital media @ face value without checking sources & going back to original data? I wouldn’t be surprised if the answer to both questions is “no” but it shld be “yes”

We can’t just “rejoin” but we can speed up getting closer to the EU, & break the ‘vow of silence’ many politicians seem to have taken on the “self-harm on a heroic scale” that Brexit has delivered to the UK & its citizens.

We need to talk about Brexit…

Jenkins is often wrong.. but this time he’s not.

“Brexiteers boasted that leaving the EU would be worth hundreds of billions a year. Cambridge Econometrics estimates… over the next decade Britain’s economy will be £300bn smaller than if we had not left the EU.“

With British industry faltering, the excuse that the public wants this is risible. Parliament must force Starmer to act, says Guardian columnist Simon Jenkins

& the Labour conference speech was-whilst not going to win an Olivier award-a decent narrative delivered well.. even w a couple of moments of good comic timing. So for some reason he chooses *not* to on invest in comms/stakeholder relations (inc to the public) on the domestic front. It’s boggling.
leviathanwilde.bsky.social
What’s weird is he obviously *can* do the, values, vision“, how are we going to get there & what’s the “so what?”. Because he did in the Labour leader hustings, I’ve heard him speak genuine human on the Matt Forde political party & James O’Brien full disclosure podcasts & he’s good internationally

Has your text predict gone nuts recently too? It’s got some very weird decisions of what I want to write recently.. often seemingly after I have pressed send too…which on some cases has ended up with some very quick retractions from me 😅 I mean TP has always been a bit random but seemingly more so
