Also have an apparent inability to distinguish people being reasonable and people not shouting.

Also interesting to note that Reform’s Welsh leader pleading guilty to accepting bribes to promote the Kremlin’s agenda apparently cut through less than a 12 year old Sun article about one woman’s perception of her own breasts.

Bosoms > Britain being susceptible to Russian corruption

Also - after 15 years of doing media debates/punditry it’s my observation that often the most polished speaker on a panel is also the most blithe - actually they don’t give a crap about the topic they’re discussing. Just something to bear in mind when listening to certain Reform MPs.

Watched Question Time tonight and really proud of the people of Shrewsbury for pushing back on some of the more rancid aspects of discourse around immigration in media and politics.

(Was less thrilled that they were apparently baffled by the concept of a 1% wealth tax).

I’ve been saying this for ten years now but possibly not often enough: Ask Them What They Think The Words They’re Using Mean. And then ask them to name the ‘problematic’ people. We had ‘sovereignty’, ‘laws’ & ‘unelected bureaucrats’. The US now has ‘Antifa’, the ‘radical left’ & ‘insurrection’. Ask!

And I’ll say it again - even if every Jewish person in Britain were 100% behind Netanyahu (which statistically the majority are not) they’d still deserve to feel safe here in their home country. Which is why the whole conflation was so toxic in the first place.

I’ve just realised something - the same mentality which holds all
Palestinian people responsible for the actions of h*m*s will blame anyone who advocated for an end to a genocide responsible for the man who perpetrated a terror attack last Thursday.

I’ve been on air with him a few times - always seems like a decent chap.

“You described Reform and other parties across Europe today as among the 'right wing equivalents of the fascists in the 1930s'. Why?”

“Because that’s what they are”

@vicderbyshire.bsky.social asks Lord Heseltine about remarks he made at Conservative Party Conference.

Wow. The clip itself appeared on my timeline directly after your post. You’ve barely paraphrased it at all! What a wanker. So sick of this normalisation of racism.

I think pretty much anything can be ‘unbritish’ judging by the regularity with which journalists and politicians are flinging the accusation around.

(Black) Sky journalist - ‘do you think it was racist when you said there’s too many Black people in some areas of the U.K.?’

Robert Jenrick - ‘it’s people like you that are the reason there’s terrorism!’.

(Paraphrasing) a completely mental argument that is sadly completely representative of 2025.

Everyone stop calling everyone else ‘un British’ challenge.

I’m thinking about when it was (briefly) fashionable to be a good person and people were constantly being accused of ‘virtue signalling’. Was it really so bad if people were pretending to care more than they did? Better than now when people happily advertise all their absolute worst traits.

I know this is obvious when you think about it but we don’t think about it enough: fascists have to cow & persecute decent journalists to prevent them from reporting exactly what they, the fascists, are doing. Fascist-adjacent ‘journalists’ help by insisting that we shouldn’t call fascists facsists.

Last night. Can we have a discussion about the climate of hate fostered in this country by sponsored disinformation and the far right, please?
Fire at Peacehaven mosque treated as arson and hate crime as images of suspects released.

Thank you for really listening to caller @annemarie1.bsky.social & as you succinctly said: "The short termism of prioritising the economy has led to the economy suffering because there have been so many people infected (w Covid) & are now unable to work".

I can’t tell you. But I got a flurry of texts saying I was being ‘divisive’ and ‘inflammatory’ - I suspect from TR fans who want to ‘unite’ everyone behind a hatred of Muslims.

This. Also far right and islamist extremists have a lot in common (subjugation of lgbtq people, strong beliefs about how women should dress and behave and in male supremacy, non belief in democracy, extreme interpretation of holy books to suit their political ends etc).

So…. TR is a dreadful ‘corrosive’ ‘malign’ ‘criminal’ ‘thuggish’ figure but we’re to be completely neutral on the government that is giving him the VIP treatment and seeking to amplify his views. Okay thanks Shabana. Helpful.

“That is for them to explain, not me.”

Israel has invited Tommy Robinson for a visit, praising him as a ‘courageous leader’.

Shabana Mahmood calls him a ‘corrosive influence’, but ‘won’t comment on the decision.’
