I cannot stress how life-changing UV from Astral is for a PhD student running Python/PyTorch code from multiple projects and across various HPC machines 🤯. Big kudos to the team!!!

I recall a wise person saying that the reason the tech bros had so much confidence in AI wasn't that they understood tech so well, it was that they understood humans so little. I keep thinking about that.

Sierra Leone imported enough solar panels in one year to make up 65% of their entire nation's generating capacity. If you're not preparing for massive drops in fossil fuel demand, you're not paying attention.

China-made panels drive Africa’s 15 GW solar import milestone
Africa’s solar imports soared 60% to 15 GW in 2025, fueled by China, reshaping power and cutting diesel reliance.

🚨 IEA now says renewables will be the world’s #1 power source by 2026 (possibly as soon as 2025). Wind & solar already supply >90% of demand growth, coal’s decline is baked in. The tipping point is here—clean energy isn’t the future, it’s the present. ⚡🌞 #Renewables #EnergyTransition #BESS

“Wait,” I said, before clicking the link. “What does Google have to do with earthquake emergency alerts in Turkey?”

spoiler alert the answer is “giving us all a haunting glimpse into the privatization of science and emergency management”
Google failed to warn 10 million of Turkey earthquake severity
The tech giant said only 469 serious warnings were sent out ahead of the 7.8 magnitude quake.

It's no coincidence that this yr & last yr's strong +NAO summers have came after major strat warming events in early spring

Persistent +NAO both yrs has kept the Atlantic cooler/more stable than it otherwise would be & shouldn't be ignored in seasonal hurricane fcsts

🚨 Our research is on the cover of Nature Climate Change! 🌍🔥🌊

We explore how climate change-driven wildfires could increase the deposition of iron to the oceans, potentially boosting marine productivity and CO₂ uptake, especially in the North Atlantic.

This hits different. In Norman, passed by the National Weather Center, where I studied for part of my MMet and PhD and learned so much. I wouldn’t be where I am without what I gained from my time and the people here.

Hasta siempre, Pepe.

Poco más que decir.

En gran parte de la Península Ibérica el período del 1 de febrero al 25 de marzo ha sido el más lluvioso desde, al menos, 1940 (comienzo del reanálisis ERA5).

TRIBUNA| PELIGROSA INEPTITUD EUROPEA

Here we go! 100% of ECMWF ensemble goes for a reversal of 10 hPa 60°N zonal winds on ~10 March. Most ensemble members seem to indicate this would be a final stratospheric warming (FSW), rather than an SSW, because of a lack of a sustained return to westerlies. Similar to event of 5 March 2016.
