Life in Dad Land - tales of dementia from the inside

Dad is in his 80s, has a non-Alzheimer's dementia, and is otherwise healthy. He's been living with me since early 2020.

Pasta tonite. Crushed tomatoes, onions, zucchini, garlic, lots of mixed Italian spices/herbs, some fresh tomatoes, olive oil.

Sauce is simmering now. Thinking tagliatelle, maybe linguini. Romano cheese on top.

I see the mantises are about in my yard only after they lay their eggs, the cases stand out on the twigs and plants. But the mantises? Hard to see!

Truman's renovation was because the White House was deemed unsafe and the second floor was on the verge of collapse. A support beam even cracked and a piano leg went through the floor. It was in a pretty bad state of disrepair after two world wars, and it was long overdue to be renovated.

Here's an awesome critter for #Arachtober, a harvestman/harvester/daddy longlegs (order Opiliones). It's an arachnid that's not a spider; they don't produce venom or silk, and unlike most arachnids, can swallow chunks of solid food. This gorgeous burgundy individual was in Costa Rica. 🐙🌿 #Bugsky

I danced for joy the year I "earned" my 4th week of vacation - after 25 years of work - I could take 2 whole weeks off to visit far-flung family! Or rent a cabin in a park! Or at a beach! And have time left to extend a holiday or paint the house...

Assholes have no clue how bad this looks.

Yeah, typical "seat of your pants" management.

Have no clue about what is actually raising prices (drought, screw-worm, high feed costs.)
Decimate the agencies that could help.
Raise tariffs, fire more scientists.

Now make it worse with cheap imports.

Guess his burgers cost too much.

Yesterday, I learned from @jmadelman.bsky.social that one of the Walt Whitman poems that moralists tried to have expunged from an 1880s edition of Leaves of Grass was "The Dalliance of the Eagles." Very sexy, for sure, but "too sexy for print" has me howling.

I usually drink tea, but absolutely love a good cup of coffee - for me that is a strong, dark, full bodied cup with plenty of sugar. No creamer, cream, any of that. Maybe a wee touch of cinnamon.
