i use Complaint systems at local, state and federal level to work for shifting power toward dignity for kids with disabilities

my experience and critique comes with so many innings played in small ball

the oversight mechanisms are very lacking and often re-traumatize those who try to use them

i am waiting on an updated directory via FOIA from CPS but i promise it will be a dismantling

since then, Josh Long has dismantled most of the department and many have left

we talked about chicago's history of using ugly laws, they were instituted in 1881 and how they stayed on the city books until the 1974

the laws changed but chicago public schools still warehouses kids with disabilities and sequesters poor children
Any person who is diseased, maimed, mutilated, or in any way deformed, so as to be an unsightly or disgusting object, or an improper person to be allowed in or on the streets, highways, thoroughfares or public places in this city, shall not therein or thereon expose himself or herself to public view, under the penalty of one dollar for each offense. On the conviction of any person for a violation of this section, if it shall seem proper and just, the fine provided for may be suspended, and such person detained at the police station, where he shall be well cared for, until he can be committed to the county poor house.

all schools are invited to do something like this, there are incredible school staffers who have relationships with families and have spent years building trust

young people in chicago are showing up for each other in so many ways and they are stoked to work on food distribution also ❤️🏵️
