Man, I loved some damn Diane Keaton.

A solid broad. Self-possessed, effortless style, never felt like she took herself too seriously.

We lost a real one.

diane???? keaton????? i refuse to accept it.

…infinitely endearing screen star who lifted any cinematic moment with her one of a kind laugh and charm. to say she will be missed is a deep understatement.

if i were a staffed culture columnist i would be revisiting past teen television romances wondering how teen romance lost its emotional edge. are young adults allowed to have the weight of their big feelings on screen any longer? has the 10 episode season erased emotional depth?

One of the more incredible stories out of LA this year has been how a taco review blog became the best on-the-ground coverage of ICE raids in the city.

They do a dispatch every day, follow-up on the kidnapped people (which almost no media outlet has done), and fact-check government claims.

Ken Jacobs (1933-2025)

A great artist, a wonderful teacher, & speaking personally, a close friend for over 50 years. Linking to a piece I wrote to mark his 80th birthday.

the american fascination with adults being in a perpetual childlike state— parentifying public officials (“the babysitter is evil”), imaging every scenario through high school fantasies— reminds that the last times most american’s needs are met is childhood. the basis of the fantasy is being secure.

NJ PBS shutting down next summer.

“15yrs ago Gov. Christie ended 4 decades of state funding for public TV, forcing them to find a new funder. The state cut $750k in funding this yr, but that was hardly the fatal blow; that came from the end of federal funds.”
