"The lives of the Black artists who make up Black excellence were shaped by the institutions of the past century, which were rooted in a belief in a common public good and a deep appreciation for the history of artistic craft. We are living through the destruction of all that."

AT&T has been trying to get rid of landlines in California for YEARS because they are expensive and annoying to maintain, with shrinking market share. The people who use them, however, REALLY need them for safety and communication esp in rural areas with limited cell coverage.
They rely on copper landlines for emergencies. AT&T could threaten their lifeline
AT&T is fighting to ease regulations requiring landlines, which cost it $1 billion per year in California. It has spent big on lobbying.

Alice is the gold standard of what Twitter was when it was great - how you could just find these brilliant, remarkable people with the kind of voices that rarely get platformed or taken seriously, and hear about their lives in their own words without intruding on them or demanding emotional labor
Watching disabled people around the world mourn Alice is a reminder of the good aspect of the internet. 30 years ago, few people outside of SF would ever have known Alice existed. I never would have met her. The internet connected us all. Let’s honor Alice’s memory by using that power and community.
My social media is wall-to-wall love for the incomparable Alice Wong, and I need more words. What captures sadness and/also affection for a community that knows what's been lost?

Please stop using language that suggests that people with criminal records are appropriate targets for this administration's violence. One in three adults has a criminal record. Stop playing sacrifice games with fascists. Stop surrendering entire categories of people in your own mind.

This excellent post is evoking Larissa Sansour's In the Future, They Ate from the Finest Porcelain (2015), which features "narrative terrorists" that bury fabricated artifacts for future political fights over history. In addition to the film, Sansour actually did this as part of the project!

the obsession with how history remembers…leaving the “record” to time insinuates the future record has a “neutral” author that won’t censor, distort, or willfully ignore the truth.

“history” & willful remembering is the responsibility of us all, not for unnamed people for a under-regarded future.
