One of the least mentioned but most irritating aspects about this whole freaking thing is the pure Patrick Bateman-ness of it all.

The man interrupted a question about the very public death of one of his supporters to talk about the quality of construction materials ffs. I assume Ellis met him.

Everything they do, think or want - it’s all so they can make a distorted mirror of the things that the world has held as good and by doing so excluded them.
They want to colonize and appropriate it so that they can see themselves and their wrongness idealized.

I agree. Unfortunately, a large swath of people would rather believe in a fantasy that gives them something to blame (whether it’s witches, immigrants or Antifa) than deal with real and difficult social issues. Boogeymen are much simpler than genuine solutions.

Exactly! The first thing I have to get my students on board with is the basic fact that all of these people were innocent because witchcraft was never real. Once you really think about that, the issue becomes much clearer.

Listen, I study witch hunts and y’all know what witch hunts were, right? They were abstract unregulated emotions disguised as social ills that relied entirely on manufactured and coerced accusations of an imaginary cabal doing imaginary crimes.

This is true of every version of witch hunt.

For suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever.

The free speech activist who built a list of professors he worked to get fired for their speech must be celebrated for his support of free speech, and anyone who quotes his speech accurately in context will be fired and/or face state punishment by the champions of free speech, do I have that right?

I have had about enough of the tone-policing now. Anger is not a bad thing when it is righteous, not abusive. Unlike sadness, which can bring you to your knees, anger is *generative*. It makes you stand up. Not my tradition, but even Jesus had anger for injustice. This is exactly what anger is for.
