Drew this one as an alternate poster for my show on November 1.

This is also great in Mexican dishes. I love it as an enchilada cheese.

We sell both at my job and this one gets called “square Munster”

I just had their song “Jogging” pop into my head yesterday and wondered what happened to them. Glad to see they’ve got new stuff. Looking forward to giving it a listen.

Me five minutes ago: the simple life is the way to go. Who needs all this?

Me five min later: they need to release a vinyl version of Coil’s obscure “And The Ambulance Died In His Arms” so that I can listen to it while in the correct room of my apartment.

People want to eat in diners. No amount of gentrification will change that. You can try to improve the diner (good luck!!) but you’ll never beat it.

I can’t eat at Dove’s Luncheonette without thinking of Tenacious D’s “Tribute”. It isn’t what makes Wicker Park great, but it is a solid tribute to that neighborhood’s Moment.

It at least kinda gets it and doesn’t pretend that the best use for that spot was a Sweetgreen or Chase Bank

I WILL NOT BE SILENCED BY THE LIBRARIAN WHO SAYS I CANT BRING A CROCKPOT INTO NONFICTION. RUN THE EXTENSION CORD COWARD. LET THE STEW LEARN

This has been a routine for the last 8 years (not my favorite thing about this job, btw) and there’s always a rueful “last night on the outside” vibe to it.

I have a vacation blackout for the last two months of the year, so
I’m taking my last personal day of the year today to have coffee with my folks before they leave town, then chill out in an old man bar and read this. If you want simple things, the world has no leverage over you.
Paperback copy of Jeff Noon’s Automated Alice.

Gen X is the best because we know tech enough to be somewhat capable but can do shit like this so we can get by without it.

The thought of not having a few phone numbers memorized is completely alien to me. I will admit that the proliferation of area codes has made it tougher, though.

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

soooo my Chicagoans, has anyone else's neighborhood facebook group gone from desperately apolitical (regarding federal politics) to at least 40% about ICE/DHS activity and organizing against it? like it's hard to overstate this shift

God, they were so boring. Them and Gomez were the two bands of that era of British rock that just irked me.

Kula Shaker’s “Tattva” was even worse.

I am home in Chicago now but I would like to share this excellent flier I found in Yerevan.
A weathered telephone poll flier that reads “stop using ChatGPT, grammar, tellper, if you don’t want to REGRESS”

At some point in the last 2.5 years I went to bed thinking of Israel as a flawed but recoverable democracy that could work out its issues eventually post-Netanyahu and woke up holding it in the same disdain as Milošević’s Yugoslavia and the Confederate States
diplomatofnight.com
Apropos absolutely nothing else there is still a rather rude awakening which is yet to come for those in the Democratic Party and in the camp of liberalism writ large if they think Israel's public image is at all recoverable among young and nonwhite voters and apparatchiks.

Right. Because we all know labor is the only input in the cost of goods.

I don’t even trust my current plan. There is no way in hell I would ever trust a plan engineered by that scam artist.

Sources: Leadership nixed it over concerns re: U.S. political climate, backlash to Yasuke

Jesus, I see what you’ve given others and I want that for myself.
