oof yeah. I am on the leadership board of a purple church ( a generally progressive mainstream denomination but many actual members seem to have missed that part). It is simultaneously a HUGE bummer and yet meaningful to keep trying to build a community that does good in the world. So hard tho.

When you have an administration that so constantly, shamelessly, openly lies, pretty soon there’s no faith in any information streams coming from the administration, so there’s no way to convey true information in a way that lands right, which leads to more chaos.

Johnson condemned a sermon by Bishop Mariann Budde, the Episcopal Bp of Washington, in which she asked Trump to “have mercy” on transgender people and immigrants.

Johnson decried it as “radical ideology.”

Others said similar things, and Budde later reported receiving messages w/“violent speech.”

One of the reasons I'm not familiar with his views is that I find they've been inaccurately or incompletely reported. When I do listen to him in full, he speaks with civility, and his full context has usually been lost. This disappoints me in my profession. That is what I'm saying.

The right sets the terms of our political discourse in so many ways, one of which is the idea that there isn't enough "debate" and "free speech" on campus.

We need to push back on this. The truth is (speaking for myself as a history prof), I don't really emphasize debate much in my classes/
